Coronavirus (No politics)

The fact that the government did not shut down the country in years past with viruses with higher death rates, e.g., the flu, proves to me the shut-downs are politically motivated....completely.
Remember when Ebola came to town and we sorta shrugged our shoulders and Texas handled it on their own. Now Ebola could have been a real problem but there was no national freak out then

Why would I stay in my basement as I was vaxxed in April. I will admit this whole pandemic thing has changed some of our habits as we rarely dine out anymore. Not because of fear of infection but because the pause from it helped us realize it was more pleasant to dine at home whether we prepare ourselves or buy to go.

You however still continue to attempt to discredit news reports and personal stories from others based on your own local experience being different.
My outdoor space is awesome. We would rather hang out at home. We do go pick up food to support our favorite restaurants

I've just about thrown up my hands on the whole thing. There clearly is some benefit, but it's a little hard to explain why the highest 3 or 4 states for per capita rate of Covid infection are in the Northeast where lockdowns and masks were embraced.
Maybe this is not reliable information, but other than RI theses states are not in the NE.

U.S. COVID-19 case rate by state | Statista

A tiny difference of degree in risk of exposure, don’t you think?

NM, carry on. These discussions are pointless. Be smart, stay well, go Vols.
I’m not sure if that first part is true. Look at the way it has ravaged Africa in years gone by. It’s more contagious than you might think

If you are vulnerable get the Vax. I’m not so I won’t. It’s time for the rest of us to live our lives.

You ain't seen nothing yet. As bad as the Delta is proclaimed to be, the next incarnation of the virus, when it mutates again, will be worse. And folks claiming invulnerability will discover kryptonite isn't always a radioactive meteor fragment, and they aren't Superman anyway. So far the Moderna vax at least is a workable bug spray. Soon enough, the bug will mutate to neutralize its efficiency. And the supermen/women will find themselves either kryptonized or Lex Luthored or both. Hmmm. I wonder if gulping six ounces of bleach will help? I just hope our coaches and teams have sense enough to protect the players against the myth of invincibility.

Delta is not more deadly, and we also don’t even know the breakdown in delta/ regular cases sense no one even bothers to determine which variant of the virus it is. Our players are fine. I’m not aware of a single athlete that has died of this thing. The national freak out is not entirely commensurate with killing power of the virus. Like I said though I think there is a subset of the population where the vaccine makes sense

LOL. People will argue anything. If you do simple research, you will find that ebola virus is not airborne. It's contracted through bodily fluids. First article that I found said that infectious disease doctors were not worried after the first US case because it is hard to contract and easy to stop with good infection-control practices.

There's a lot you don't know. And in truth doctors too have died from it. Moreover, many who get the virus end up with long term heart damage which can lead to an eventual death. Now, the covvie dead are:

Cody Lyster -21-year-old college baseball player in Colorado April(?) 2020
Keyontae Johnson, the University of Florida college basketball star

I do think most athletes would recover from the virus, however, the high risk of heart damages is a documented reality. So we maybe talking about gradual deaths rather than instant deaths.

Johnson's family later said that experts reviewed his situation, and it was not from having Covid.

One of me ER NP’s dad has COVID and the only thing that might save him is a double lung transplant. Between the virus and the high pressures required to try and keep him oxygenated over the last 10 days, his lungs are basically destroyed.

I wish people would understand, it’s not just about the deaths.

Not to speak ill of the dead but Lyster was definitely overweight. Being overweight really makes one more vulnerable to the virus. The Florida guy had a heart issue. So again I’ve yet to see a healthy athlete die from the virus. I’m not saying it’s not a problem that people are dying, it’s sad. But his case is not representative of what other athletes might experience. Long term effects? I have little idea about that. This entirely anecdotal but my dad had it last summer, he’s since been to a cardiologist before he had an unrelated operation. He got glowing reviews, his heart is in as best condition as a 57 year old mans can be. Thank God. Makes wonder though about what you are saying, the Chinese cooked it up in a lab so hell anything is possible

please edit that word in the last sentence of your post @lukeneyland. You made some reasonable points and then threw a friggin grenade in the foxhole.
I hate the Chinese. It’s a slur against them and I’m fine with it. I’ll change it so the moderators don’t have to. They’ve killed hundreds of thousands of us. They steal intellectual property from our businesses , send religious minorities to concentration camps. They used to encourage the abortion of baby girls. They are a horrible country. I’ve got nothing but nice things to say about the rest of Asia or any Chinese that renounce their government. But China can go to hell and stay there for all I’m concerned. It’s a rotten country

We are familiar with 2 teens under 18 who contracted the virus. A couple months later they're suddenly type 1 diabetics with no family history of type 1 diabetes. The virus rendered their pancreas useless.
