Josh Heupel noon press conference

I like how he actually says “thank you” at the end of giving his pressers. Not that he owes it to the media by any means but Pruitt came across as a Grade A d-bag every time he was asked a question. Breath of fresh air to hear Heupel speak about the game.
I noticed that too. Even before he had coached a game and presumably wanted to be here, when the press conference ended he just looked down, grabbed his stuff, and walked off.

We need a coach that can make a team play better than the sum of its individual players. The only coach since Fulmer left that could do that was Kiffin. The rest of them could recruit off of our brand, facilities, and playing in the SEC in front of 100K fans but they couldn’t even coach them up to their individual potential. I am so looking forward to beating a team that no one thinks we will beat. When we start doing that, we will start to get even better recruits again.

May mean absolutely nothing, but...

The man looks rested and confident. Doesn't have bags under his eyes, doesn't have a haunted or hunted look about him, doesn't have the appearance of a person who has been losing sleep or pulling his hair out in worry.

And that's potentially a very good sign.

Because (a) recruiting scandal and possible sanctions, or (b) bad team chemistry associated with all the roster departures over the past six months, either or both of those two things could be bubbling in a bad way beyond our notice. But if they were, you'd think the coach would look more like he's been suffering some worry.

He's looking really self-assured and relaxed.

I think we're gonna be okay.

Nothing concrete, nothing you can hang a hat on, but it's a good sign for a program that's been through as much as we have this past year, to have a coach that comfortable in his position.

Go Vols!
He has that same "rested" look they all have until they start losing games. Hope he has many years of success here! GBO!!!!!!

That tie or jacket had nothing to do with Tennessee. I’m beginning to wonder about what he wore at times?
The smock choice, regardless of the weather, was always interesting to me. They look like something you'd wear on a crisp day or with a little drizzle outside. Maybe he wore them that often for sun protection? I don't know. Those long sleeve Columbia PFG shirts are still pretty comfortable even if it is really hot outside, but I don't know about a smock.

He addressed that with “control the controllables” could be categorized as coach speak, but didn’t come across that way…more as grounded. What I liked was that he didn’t duck questions or completely disregard them or worse cliche over them…he answered in human english. Win the introductory press conference is one thing, making these sessions non-cringey is new territory.

Why should he look worried? Dude could get paid $4 million a year to go 0-12 for three seasons and we'd still have to give him another $9 million to go away on December 16, 2023.

I have no clue about the smock. It did look maybe comfortable but out of service maybe. That tie doesn’t even look like any vol colors on it.

Well spoken, good with the media, represents the program very well.

My expectations are low, I just feel better when the football team is playing football.

Pruitt mimicked Nick Saban in everything but winning. I’m glad he’s gone.

I think he cares about succeeding in his job and is not simply here for the money. That is a big difference between him and his predecessors. Heupel is a high-character guy, and such people are not mercenaries, but invested leaders.

is it an omen that Heupel almost won a HeisTman at OU and now OU is coming to the SEC?
