The SEC Could Get Very Interesting

I think the Big 12 becomes the Tiny 10 if Texas and Oklahoma leave. I don't know who they could get to keep their status as one of the strongest conferences. The SEC will be the best conference in the nation by far.

The Big12 currently has ten teams. When UT/OK leave, they will have eight teams, with many of them shopping their services.

Still could change their name to the tiny ten the 8 they have left and the two they claim in their league name that they don't have.

Sounds intriguing but you aren't going to want to be there. They will be around but the Big Ten and SEC are about to leave them in the dust money wise.

This is the end game of college athletics as you knew it. 2 super conferences and then everyone else. SEC piece is done...action is going to shift to FOX and the Big Ten now.

Why do you think the SEC is done? Just asking.

Under current conditions if they both joined the gap between the SEC top teams and bottom teams would widen. The gap is almost insurmountable at this point. It may be time to create a new super conference in college football. Split out the top 6 SEC teams and add Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma (any other team I missed). Let the existing conferences realign. Alabama playing UT Chattanooga should never be allowed, it's absurd.

Those smaller schools depend on those games for revenue though.

There are four big football brands that can be moved on the chess board right now. Oklahoma, Texas, Notre Dame and USC. The SEC just moved 2 of them. They at the very least will be a co-driver of college sports with the Big Ten. Theres nothing left for them to do.

Also 16 is tops because the more schools you add the money starts to go down per school

So what do you make of reports that SEC is talking to OSU and Michigan?

Not necessarily.

Let's just say hypothetically if the Big Ten wants USC they'll have to bring along at least 3 of their neighbors...more than likely 5. If you take USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington and for arguments sake lets say Colorado and Cal/Stanford out of the Pac-12 you've essentially just gutted 80% of the value of the Pac-12. Fox can transfer the Pac-12 contract $ to Big Ten. Leave Pac-12 remnants with next to nothing.

If you've ever been a part of a company that is purchased by a private equity/venture capital group you know what happens when they come in. They cut 75% of the headcount ("waste" in their view), and strip the value out of the place back to their investors. Same thing here. Nothing more than FOX/Disney cutting lose the "takers".

No idea. But the biggest issue facing Ohio State and Michigan is not money but talent. Have you noticed all the kids from the west coast ending up in the SEC recently? Recruits want to play with the best and the best just added two of the biggest brands in college athletics--one of which may be the biggest.

Hadn't noticed OSU is lacking in talent. Of course, vs Bama, everyone is.

True, and that has been the excuse for playing them for many years. It should not be allowed just for the money. If they can't survive without that revenue what is the point? They will survive.

They aren't....yet. That's the concern. Former Buckeye Bobby Carpenter said it well in a video on his twitter feed.

Yeah, they're still basically the only true national championship calibre football power in the big ten. And now in the SEC we have Bama, LSU, Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma on a par with them and sleeping or rising powers Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, and Tx A&M.

As of right now, Tennessee ain't no "rising power."

Rumor is UK is looking at B10

False but even if they were the academic snoots of the Big Ten consider Kentucky to be bumpkinville so that ain't happening.

Nothing is happening in the Big Ten until USC and UCLA decide what they are doing. Thats not going to happen in the next week or two. Talking 2022.

Is the Pac 12 about to realign also?

I believe certain schools will. There are no schools available outside of ND (that's not happening) the Pac-12 can add to close what will be an insane $$$ gap between the SEC post-Texas/OU and the current Pac-12. Lots of questions to be answered though. Any movement of schools east starts and stops with USC/UCLA. How many schools would they want to bring with them? 2 or 4+? How many would Big Ten/ACC accept? Are USC/UCLA willing to leave one of Cal/Stanford, or potentially both, behind? Can FOX and Big Ten agree on the schools? The nerdy presidents would love Stanford. FOX--not so much.

Some of these per school $ being tossed around post-OU/Texas just blow your mind. Were talking the total package to the SEC in excess of $1 billion dollars. Doing nothing by the Pac-12 is a de facto surrender that you aren't playing top level in the new paradigm.
