2021 Recruit Class Rating Plummets Dangerously

The recruiting class ranked 2 or 3 was fools gold. It was based on a boat load of recruits, more than other schools at the time. Pruitt’s class WAS NEVER gonna finish in the top 10 after the dog$hit season he posted.

We are Colorado or Minnesota and Nebraska now. Tennessee football will never be elite again we will never see the success we had in the 90’s again I’ve made peace with that and begrudgingly have accepted that we will never be back. The recruits and high school kids today look at us as a garbage program and the laughingstock of the SEC a even bigger laughingstock when you think about it because we have a huge stadium and alot of resources yet we still suck and have for a decade plus now.

This is over the top and defeatist. A college athletic program's direction can change quickly with the right hire. I don't know if Josh Heupel is that right hire or not, but he deserves a chance... also, people who speak in absolute terms are usually proven wrong. Clemson would not have made anyone's list of the top ten programs in college football from 1989 to 2012. It takes one good hire and a little patience.

That isn't true in every case. The 4 star players were there in 2015... they just didn't develop.

I don’t have a clue what you’re saying. I’m talking about the 2021 class that was ranked #2 last summer when Pruitt had like 21 commits compared to other schools 10-15. We all knew #2 wasn’t going to last. Once the season collapsed, a top 10 class was a pipe dream.

This isn't meant to be the hot take it will appear to be, but would Tennessee not be better served leaving the SEC for the ACC? We would still compete nationally in basketball and baseball, and it would also give us the chance to revive football in a conference that really only has 1 program that is levels above us? I know the amount of money we get from just being in the SEC makes this impossible, but it seems like the best way to return to relevancy in football is to play in a weaker conference

That is true, but it is a waste of time to pay attention to recruiting class rankings before September 1st anyway. Most people who follow recruiting understand that.

I’ve thought this for some time now and have got roasted on here for suggesting it. I think moving to the ACC would be mutually beneficial for Tennessee and the ACC our baseball and basketball teams would transition well and fit in and our football team would immediately improve. I mean we do border North Carolina and Virginia and Georgia Tech and Clemson are relatively short drives away from Knoxville.

Huge pressure on Heupel to bring in a top class this year. You CANNOT have two weak classes in a row. That will destroy you 3, 4, 5 years down the road.

IMHO we need a loaded top 5-10 class to overcome the 2021 debacle.

You don’t know how recruiting rankings work, do you? We had 20 commits while everyone else had like, 8. That’s the only reason we had a top class. Volume, not quality.

A move to the ACC just isn't practical in any business sense and it wouldn't help recruiting. The fastest way back to relevancy is to find the right hire... not try to turn ourselves into NC State with a radical overhaul of our entire model, which would be interpreted nationally as a white flag of surrender.

We got manhandled last year by Kentucky worst loss to them in 85 years

That was last year. With one of the worst QBs we have had in a long time. Also with a different coaching staff. If we had the same team coming back, you would have a leg to stand on. It’s completely different this year.

Also they didn’t manhandle us as much as we gifted them the game on a silver platter. They didn’t just line up and trash us.

We had at least 2 5 stars, lewis and Brooks, a couple other really highly ranked guys at LB and other positions. It's not like our class stayed the same and everyone passed us.
