I Want...

His emphasis on offense is pretty crappy too it seems since the only time we're really good offense has been when we're playing an out matched team and get tons of transition points against them. I hate our half court offense almost as bad as our defense...

Its been the same offense since he got here... but we had Smith or Lofton to bail us out on a contested 3 ball when we drained the shot clock to zero passing on the perimeter doing nothing... this year no one can hit that shot.

We are not mean enough and I don't mean street wise mean either. I am sick of that attitude too. Who wants to see a bunch of chest bumping after a dunk or high fiving after a three especially when you are down. Go get your work clothes on and play hard for 40. Believe me if you are good enough to be D-1 then you know how to play defense.

that's inexcusable. point out more examples like that from more players against other teams (not that it's justified, but I doubt Wayne would pull that stunt against Kansas or Kentucky), and I'll start to change my mind.
in the KS and Gonzaga games on more than one occaision, ball handlers blew by as many as 3 orange shirts that literally stood by and watched him go by.

no one stepped in to the lane. no one even attempted to take a charge. Hell no one attempted to foul the guy.

standing and watching...ugh. it made me sick to watch it.

and i'm not kidding, my first though each time i've seen this happen is "they aren't even trying to stop them":)

My assessment is that our effort isn't as bad as what most on here seem to think. I think that argument is a cover-up for a more fundamental problem.
does it get more fundamental than plain old effort?

like i said earlier, i think you could argue on the basis of how much emphasis does defense get in the system pearl runs.......full court press, creating turnovers, guarding the i/b and transition offense....half court D is inherently adverse to his system.

we've not been great at half court D really at all since he's been here.

what we did have the past two years were teams that were 40 minutes of hell. tenacious, relentless, won't go away type teams.

this team does not have that characteristic. which is why it's perfectly legitimate to critisize this team's effort level compared to the past two years.

and it's no more evident on this team than on the defensive end in a half court set.

well I think this bruce pearl team has shown lack of intensity on the full court press. That was what made a bruce pearl coached team so good. I think that now that all of Buzz peterson's recruits are basically gone we will see just how good of a coach Bruce pearl is.

I'm sorry, but is this post implying that Pearl got by on the extreme talent left by Buzz? You've got to be kidding.

home field advantage in the wild card round still stinks.:)

I'd love to see Huggs or Calhoun react to Hopson standing like a scarecrow on the defensive end.

Calapari has been taking out all five players on the floor if one guy misses an assignment .Sometimes it's just that player , but sometimes it's all 5 . IMO this makes everyone want to make sure that their where their supposed to be and so is their teammate . JMO

I was at the Drexel game and in the lockeroom postgame. Cal said if he has to coach that way. he will. Doesn't like it, but doesn't feel he has a choice.

But are they so dumb as to not be able to see that they are both guarding the same guy? I have bumped into some of these players before, and they didn't strike me as retarded. Perhaps not Rhodes Scholar material, but they were typical college students. Whether it is a lack of effort in the game or a lack of effort in practice and preparation for it, even a slow-witted guy would eventually get the basic concepts down. Or so I would think. But I respect your position.

Kinda like run Forrest run

I really respect him for this and I think it holds everyone accountable not only for themselves but also for their teammates.

Their effort was so poor in the Kansas game at the beginning, that I quit watching. I have seen better defensive effort in my driveway by my neighbors wife.

Tubby used to take out all five KY players like that in the first half quite frequently.

This team is nowhere near as athletic as people like to think.

This team has a lot of problems, but I don't feel like lack of athleticism is one of them. You would at least agree that this is Pearl's most athletic team, right?

They're athletic, but to hear some people on here talk you'd think Phi Slamma Jamma and the Doctors of Dunk had joined forces in Tennessee uniforms.

Yeah, that certainly hasn't happened. Those early 80's Crum teams were obscenely athletic.

That has to do with system more than it does sending a message.

Hat... is it just me or are you impressed with Pelfrey and co at Arkansas? Give him a few years and I think the Red jacket hes got on will turn to blue? As far as us... I want to c some heart

I'm not a Pelphrey guy. My guess is that if you take Rob Evans off that sideline with him, he looks just as clueless as he did at South Alabama.
