Snit (and probably 75% of MLB managers) have a job because of the relationships they have with the players. The tactical decisions that are part of managing a baseball team...batting order, when to pinch it, bullpen management, etc., honestly aren't all that complicated. It's way less complicated than football or basketball tactics, and baseball has a much slower pace than other sports allowing the manager to see things coming. Part of any coaching or management job is having good relationships, but baseball is to a very pronounced degree. You could write a bot in about 30 min that could google stats/game situation win probabilities, have it fill out our lineup card and make appropriate bullpen changes, and save whatever we’re paying snit. I’d take a literal algorithm managing our team at this point.
You'll still be fired if you're managing 60-win teams, but mediocre managers stick around a long time if the players still love him.
