Young people use Twitter. I don’t get why that bothers some fans. No one is forcing you to go on there and follow them.

Sounds like a you problem.
Today MOST athletes and celebrities crave the spotlight and when that spotlight deems twitter is the switch to turn it back on and it is that simple.

So I found his Facebook page, found where to be, couldn’t figure out how to post a bid. 😐

Boomer struggles are real. Boomer lives matter. Get the eff off my lawn ya filthy animals 😁

I am right smack dab between Gen X and Millennial. That being said, my Mii character on our family Wii U looks like an angry old man with oversized glasses and my user name is GetOffMyLawn!

I get that it takes all types of folks. Old school says team first, don't attract attention to yourself, attract it to your team since it takes all of the individuals to come together and perform as one to do well in team sports. I never said look at me when playing team sports in HS or college. But that's just me and how I was taught.

That does not mean Maurer cannot attract attention to sobriety as an individual. That's honorable. But that tweet followed many tweets that were immature (to be nice) at best and stupid at their worst. So, for you young rascals - is it the body of work or the individual tweet that matters or something else that matters? I need to understand non-boomer (since we are evil apparently) thinking better. People see the body of work and go, "That dude is a few bricks shy of a load." Posters see that sobriety tweet only and say, "What a great thing he just did."

What say you? Educate an old codger.

Yeah. My comment had to do with his "body of work". Obviously we should be proud of his sobriety. However, fair or unfair, employers, scouts, coaches, etc tend to use Social Media activity and content to form opinions about a person. I have had perspective Asst Coaches I couldn't or wouldn't hire because of things they posted. Have a nephew who's lost 2 jobs and 1 marriage the same way. Maurer is a young man who has obvious struggles with Mental Health and Substance abuse. My opinion is that someone needs to help him make better decisions on what he puts out for the world to see. In the words of former Alabama Governor Forrest Gump: That's all I have to say about that.

I have a nephew who is 22 and is active on social media. He's a hard-working son of a gun and started his own handy man business last year. I cringe at some of the immature and unwise things he posts sometimes trying to explain to him that, while he may think some of it is cute or funny, that stuff gets out everywhere and could cost him tons of potential jobs and to think twice before hitting that send button.

I don’t understand what ppl gain from posting on social media.. I don’t know what I was thinking when I was younger and did it. It just doesn’t make sense to me anymore

Who plays the Wii anymore? Such a loser. SMH.

Shut up and play your Pong, Grandpa.

Yes, it can be career suicide. I take part in lots of hiring panels for the company work for. I always check social media to see maturity level of the interviewee.

Yeah, how dare Maurer celebrate a personal health milestone on a social media platform that might encourage one of his followers to possibly seek help for an addiction and turn their life around....selfish bastage.
This!
Social support isn't what it used to be. When we grew up, you had to go see people to connect.

The last 10 to 15 years changed how people get to know and support each other. I was able to teach yoga and make professional connections around the world because of social media. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I received support and help from all over the place and from people I've never actually met face to face.
