Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Do you think no flu is because corona virus took over its niche?
No, viruses operate fairly independently of one another. Flu circulates every winter, despite other respiratory viruses being common.

Little to no international travel (and less domestic) = no shift in the viral pool around the world. This would also make our current flu vaccine much more likely to remain accurate, as we weren't at risk for a different strain being imported. Also, less gatherings/social interaction naturally means less spread of common viral illnesses.

New cases in knox county the last 3 days.

This is with only 35% of the county vaccinated.

This looks like the beginning of a new wave. I’m seeing a 63% increase in cases.

I’ve modeled the trend and am forecasting 389 new cases one week from today.

Get your masks and lock yourselves indoors!

I haven't had a positive in weeks, and my patient population is probably <1% vaccinated. Tons of rhino/enterovirus, GI viruses, strep, and even several rogue cases of RSV in May. Still no flu.

Probably been weeks since I've received the covid email from 1 of the 3 schools my kids attend stating they have a positive.

Don't forget I'm scheduled at your office to get an embarrassing rash on my nethers examined.

...or am I?

Ha. Seriously, though: what makes that crowd so "special?"
It is an ATM for doctors because we have to have 2 physicals a year to keep working. But you won't get much business if you do an astronaut level physical.

There is a saying in (military) aviation. "If minimums weren't good enough, they wouldn't be minimums". Also, "if it ain't leaking, it's empty'. (not sure how that applies here.

Oh, I see. Sounds about like the mass "sports physicals" offered by schools, done by orthopedic surgeons. I would bet that a nurse has to show them which way the stethoscope-thingy goes.

They're probably refusing to get tested and going off into the woods to die so the numbers don't go up. THE VIRUS IS EVERYWHERE.

Most of the FAA docs are shall we say older... and very big picture guys. They are good docs though. I know several stories where a guy was getting his FAA physical and the doc found something that saved his life. That being said, I have my FAA doc.. and my regular doc.

But yeah it could be like what you describe. I also know that there are a limited number of those jobs available and they are highly coveted. They can be a PITA because you have to deal with the Feds, but I would guess for the vast majority of physicals it is a 10-20 minute deal for $100 or so.

I had a lawyer tell me once that probate was their retirement ATM. When they need a little beer money they do those. Easy Breezy.
