Basketball Recruiting - Florida Man: Storylines that will impact rankings week

Looks like Aidoo is in store for a bump in the rankings

1. WHO IS TOP DOG AT PG? Hunter Sallis vs. Ty Ty Washington vs. Kennedy Chandler
The number of possible outcomes makes this question one of the more intriguing ones left on the table. Gonzaga signee Hunter Sallis currently sits in the top spot at point guard, but Kennedy Chandler spent his senior season making a case to overtake the future Bulldog. A Tennessee signee, Chandler has spent the last handful of months shining against national competition and has proven that his game will immediately translate to the SEC level.

A FIFTH STAR IN STORE?
Jonas Aidoo’s case has already been made, as the Tennessee commit won’t participate in a national all-star game. That said, he did enough as a senior to create some internal chatter about where he should figure into the final Rivals150. The dynamic and athletic 7-footer currently sits at No. 33, just eight spots short of five-star range. Aidoo is clearly one of the most explosive bigs in the country and comes with NBA-type upside. Whether or not he’s done enough to earn five-star status, however, is still being discussed.

WHAT TO DO WITH? Brandon Huntley-Hatfield
A five-star in the class of 2022, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield made the call to reclassify a few weeks back and will arrive on Tennessee's campus as a 2021 prospect this year. Whether or not we like his upside as much as we once did post-reclassification is a conversation worth having. The good news is that the SEC-bound forward will spend the coming weekend competing with the elite prospects in the 2021 class at the Iverson Classic, which should allow us to see how he stacks up against his new peers.

Brandon Huntley-Hatfield’s playing in the iverson classic today at 5 against some of the top prospects in his class. Chandler was invited but didn’t go. Will be interesting to see how BHH stacks up against the best of his new class

INB4 Bruin arrives to question Chandler's love for the game and declare him a future failure.

All but one of our basketVOL commits moved up today for a total of 97 spots! Chandler is now the #1 PG in the nation! Now we have the #2 class in the nation!

While that "ranking" is good pub and great for the water cooler and message boards, I just hope it translates to performance on the court next season. I'm a little skiddish when it comes to these one and done types.

Anybody remember the story as to why the cats didn’t land the #5 ranked recruit from Hopkinsville KY?
He committed really early in the process to Rick Stansbury at Mississippi State in like the fall before his junior year.

Prior to that, his top schools were UK, Tennessee, Ohio State, and Mississippi State. Between the time that he committed and then decommitted from MSU, Tubby Smith had resigned from UK. There was some instability around the program and Billy Gillispie finished up an uninspiring first season.

After decommitting from MSU, Hopson had planned on focusing on Tennessee and UK, plus new schools in his recruitment; Texas and Cincinnati. He eventually chose Tennessee and Bruce Pearl.

Honestly don't want this kid if he's going to be a diva/distraction. Also that was legit the fakest top 10 schools I've ever seen.
Probably going pro, anyway, but that list seems to pay homage to 5 HBCUs amongst his top 10. Not sure it was super serious, but a lot of kids have been including some HBCUs within their top lists.

The whole adding HBCUs to your list when you're a top recruit just seems fake to be woke/ get likes. Feels like something LeBron would do if he were a recruit nowadays...

I don’t entirely disagree as a whole, but Makur Maker did follow thru by going to Howard, too, so it isn’t unprecedented. I do agree that it is absolutely a Lebron type move, though.
