The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Someone for the love of god tell Chip nobody uses “back of the bubble gum card” to evaluate players anymore Jesus Christ

We signed Charlie and knew we had Max/Ian/Charlie then multiple young options as well. You can find pitching at the deadline. I’d rather Duvall and another solid right handed bullpen arm than Smyly.
This is a hilarious statement in the context of both 162 games and trying to win a seven game series.

In spring, we had Bryse, Kyle, Ynoa and figured to have Mike back by beginning of May. If we are the Yankees or Dodgers and have oodles of money, sure throw $11M on Smyly. We can’t afford that. It’s a poor allocation of funds. Would you rather have Duvall/Melancon right now or Smyly?

collectively accomplished absolutely nothing at the time of Drew Smyly signing

*thats the most optimistic case imaginable. No one in charge of decision making for any organization can do so through the lens of anticipating the most optimistic outcome possible

Hindsight is always 20/20. We had to have starting pitching and we STILL need starting pitching despite Ynoa being way better than anyone could have expected

Maybe it’s my frustration that we’ve had literally 10 different pitching prospects make a top 100 prospect list since 2016 and we still have to sign a guy like Smyly for 8 figures. I don’t know. I wasn’t really a fan even if I thought he pitched well, I had no hope he would stay healthy. I just think AA could have used the $11M on other assets and have a better team. Jesus we are playing Alex Jackson and Guillermo Heredia and relying on Ehire Adrianza as our super utility.
