They will share the stadium downtown. LNS will be a glorified practice facility and house occasional games and 100s of camps.
I think this would work pretty well. Minor league stadiums aren’t really in use until the college season is over anyway. Would end up being top 2-3 stadiums in the league, whereas renovating LNS couldn’t move the need that much.

Students seem able to find the old city just fine, doubt they’d have trouble with attendance there. Just run shuttles back and forth from the frat houses on game days.

I hope so, TN being good at baseball and beating Vandy in the one sport they are good at would be funny.
It would actually be nice to see UT and Vandy battle in the top 10 on a regular basis in Baseball. Hopefully this is a real rivalry now for years to come. Really good overall for the state.

Vitello has been pretty lukewarm on radio regarding the downtown ballpark. He’s all about an on campus stadium and making upgrades to LNS.
I hope so, hate off campus stadiums. Also don't think the new Smokies stadium will have artificial turf, so they would run into the same issues they had at LNS with natural grass.

Someone explain to me why Wilkerson doesn’t do all UT sports play by play. He’s very good at high school football and basketball. Much better than our current guy.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's because Blob was hand picked by Ward. I remember when Ward retired, a lot of people thought it should be Wilkerson too.

Vandy has kind of built in recruiting advantage. I can't recall what it is. They can offer more scholarships or something. Never quite understood it.
Scholarships, yes, but not baseball scholarships. Your cost of attendance is affected by how much your family makes. If they make very little, you pay very little. It is just like the Ivy League system but the Ivy League doesn't have merit or athletic scholarships like Vandy does. So if you have a lower-income recruit, they can come to Vandy for basically free because of need-based aid and baseball doesn't have to use a baseball scholarship on them. This combined with how aid is different for baseball than it is for football and basketball allows Vandy to have more kids on full scholarships than other universities as long as they recruit some players from lower-income families.

You can’t break the bank for baseball facilities. It doesn’t make money. But you can pay Tony all the moneys you can muster. I put my money in him, not a facility.
The problem with that is that Tony wants a better facility for recruiting. If the stadium is not upgraded, Tony just may be in the wind. Some schools value their baseball program.

I think our offense is going to be good. I also think our defense will be good. Big difference when you have to go back out there quickly because your offense scored vs. a pick six or three n outs. I would also add that lining up correctly will solve a lot of big play issues. Pruitt and company were ass. GBO!
Who schooled you? I think you may have this lining up correctly thing right.

I read somewhere that they will play some of their home games in the new stadium downtown. Tony seemed very happy with that happening but he still needs the campus stadium changes.

UT added a commitment to upgrade baseball facilities into Vitello's contract extension. There have been numerous internal discussions on his vision, and Fulmer was moving forward with renderings. They want to add fan experience amenities, improve media areas, enhance seating, overhaul the entrance and modernize the overall aesthetic, in addition to continuing clubhouse upgrades. With Fulmer gone, it will transition to DW. He and Plowman seem committed, maybe even more so after this weekend showed how UT fans will support baseball.

Vitello has the opportunity to see his vision brought to life at UT, and hopefully, that will be enticement to stay and see it through.

Good post. Voltello has the vision and the ability to build something truly special here.

I wish that UT sports fans as well as university officials would realize just what a baseball hotbed the state truly is. They have been missing out on the opportunity that sits at their doorsteps since Delmonico. Development of quality players is off the charts in many state high schools and it could grow exponentially if UTK would jump in with both feet. Even MLB knows that an existing franchise moving or a new one with expansion needs to be in Nashville. Everybody wants to see the state develop more of its own quality football and basketball players to have a bigger in-state pool to recruit from. It's already there in baseball and has been for 15-20 years. The kids just need the opportunity. Guess who was preseason ranked the #1 juco program in the country by PG - yep - Walters State, down the road in Morristown. Roster filled primarily with TN kids, followed by Kentucky and a few sprinkled in from other states around the country. Dyersburg State was #15. Roane State and Cleveland State have been in it frequently in the past. Should tell everybody something.

As you stated previously having a great baseball program/facilities is not mutually exclusive with having great football and basketball programs/facilities. They enhance each other as success grows. We all laughed at TBA when it was built so big and prominently. There were times it was a like a mausoleum during the Houston years even with Pat's LV's doing so well. Yet - here we are. With a basketball program that can fill it up due to a future HOF coach who's is respected enough that elites are willing to schedule OOC games as well as the emphasis SEC schools have now placed on basketball. The additional use for concerts/events just enhances the revenue stream.

Vision. Get some.

I think Mike Keith was the popular suggestion among fans. But, yes, Bob was hired as a student by Ward and was Ward’s spotter for a while. Then, he did pre and post game shows for a long period of time. It was always going to be him to succeed Ward.

I keep posting this. Maybe some more folks will believe it coming from you. New park on-campus would be great, but where and how? LNS will never measure up to where even the rest of the conference has already gone with it.

As already pointed out - the majority of the season's schedule is not in conflict with the Smokies anyway.
