Gun control debate (merged)

I’m all for discussing facts, but here it’s mostly hyperbole. I’m genuinely open to listening to most any point of view on firearms because I can see the relevance of most positions. The problem is most on the right have dug into an absolutists stance, and there is a faction of the left who have done the same. It’s complete nonsense and creates an environment where we can’t even discuss or debate serious issues sincerely.

I think if you wanted to study violent crime statistics and their correlation to other metrics a better study would be how unemployment affect them.

The fact is you can’t get in someone’s head. You can’t know what someone’s breaking point is until it happens. You always screech something about “scientific” study this and that so you can put a finite number on something when there’s no way to do it. The fact is the places with the strictest gun laws have the most gun violence yet they blame it on other places that have virtually none.
That is what we call hyperbole, and a perfect example of what I mentioned. It’s unproductive, unsupported, and serves it’s intended purpose to be spouted as propaganda.

I think unemployment is a singular variable in a much broader discussion with hundreds of variables.

I’m hardly the guy to take up the mantle that everybody else is incapable of having a serious conversation. 😂

I started out kind of like you, and now think this place is a grade school cafeteria food fight. It’s probably impossible to have a civilized meal, but it’s still entertaining.

If I’m interested in differing opinions, like here, I think it’s fun to read along and just try to separate the wheat from the chaff.

To be fair you brought most of the food fights on yourself . 🤷‍♂️

Lol. No it’s not. How many times has gun violence in Chicago been blamed on bordering states yet those states don’t suffer from the same problems that Chicago does? Then you have the guy you voted for go on tv and tell lie after lie about background checks, “loopholes”, etc. I mean was he lying or was it just “hyperbole”?

I sure do wish I could find all these gun show loop holes I keep hearing about . I’d really like to know the last time those that say they exist went to a gun show and bought firearms using that “ loophole “

Yea you just go to a gun show and get whatever with no background check. Absurd.

You’re just repeating things you’ve heard on propaganda outlets. As I said, you’re “stance” is not productive or solution oriented, it’s meant to stoke fear and scapegoat... none of which I’m interested in engaging with.

Is this like when you said that for profit healthcare is doctors and Admins who didn't care about patients at all in order to make tons of money? Or is that a "different" kind of unproductive, unsupported, proproganda?

No. Not for everything. That’s myopic and absolutist. Some things benefit from being aggregated.

Most things get all kinds of ****ed up when you introduce the federal government.

Honestly, FEMA is a great example of what the federal government should do. Asking the locals:

"What help do you need?"

"Where and when do you need it?"

Then step back and let those on the ground make decisions.

When PolitiFact labels something that a Democrat said as “mostly false” that means that said politician is completely full of sh*t.

I can’t imagine why supporters of our 2a have such a no bs approach to what the left calls “reasonable and rational “. When you constantly lie , and skew statistics, facts and data , the only thing thats reasonable or rational is assuming you won’t stop lying to push a narrative. One would think after it’s been proven over and over again that liberals are the best gun salesmen in the history of this country , they would learn to stop screeeeeeching and lying about firearms .

From the research paper I posted earlier:

“Other scholars have examined firearm prevalence and crime using a cross-national research design. Using the International Crime Survey, Killias (1993) found wide variation in firearm ownership. For instance, only 2% of households in the Netherlands owned a gun, while 48% of homes in the United States reported owning a gun. Killias (1993) was also interested in whether a lack of availability of firearms would lead individuals to compensate by using other means to commit suicide and homicide. He found that firearm prevalence was positively correlated with national homicide and suicide rates and positively correlated with homicide and suicides committed by a firearm. Killias (1993) demonstrated that there is no weapon substitution effect for countries with low firearm prevalence rates.
Individuals did not find other means to commit homicide and suicide when a firearm was not present.”
This boils ALL the variables between countries down to just guns. Apparently the ONLY difference between the Netherlands and the US is guns.

You are being obtuse again. Or at least using obtuse data.

You’re the one that usually starts slinging the mashed potatoes.

You’re not interested in a solution or identifying the problem.

You aren’t even interested in acknowledging a problem, and any solution is made up in your head based on what you wish was the problem lol
We’re not interested in “solutions” that punish law abiding citizens and have zero impact on the offenders. Which is all that limiting firearm ownership does.
