1. How many athletes get that life changing money and are broke within a couple years?
2. Right now he is very raw and would be drafted on potential coming back and developing more increases his chances at a second fat contract.

Developing, period, increases his chances of a 2nd fat contract. If you think the NBA is gonna draft a guy in the top 15 who needs development and not have the tools in place to help him develop then you’re high.

Not at all, I'm saying he could come back and go from a guy that needs to be developed and be a guy that is developed. More $$ more minutes bigger 2nd contract.

I’m sorry but some of y’all encouraging Keon to come back are terrible at advice. He’s a consensus top 10 pick and will get paid heavily with life changing money. He needs to go.

Nobody is encouraging. People just providing opinion. If money wasn’t involved it would be a no brainer to return for one more yr of developing his offensive game and limiting his turnovers. But money is involved and lots of it so nobody expects him to come back. But if one of the two kids have a reason to come back in terms of where their game is at this moment it’s Keon. Springer is very much more polished but ceiling isn’t as high as Keon. I think Springer can immediately step in a play tomorrow in NBA. Keon would have some struggles yr 1 outside of being a defensive specialists and a few highlight reel dunks here or there but has unlimited ceiling.

If it was me I would go but I’d also understand why he would considerin one more yr

I took mine to the Charlotte game in 2018. I was a little worried because the second half of that game was boring. But he asked if we could come back as we were walking out. Then, we made it to the Mississippi State game in 2019.
Started reading this thinking it would end poorly, but that Miss St game was an awesome choice

This 100%. Is why I think he needs to come back. Excellent post.

Do you watch any NBA games? I'm seriously wondering why you're so adamant about him not being ready for the league while every scout and GM around has him as a guaranteed top 10 pick.

His defense is as good as you can ask for out of a prospective draft pick and he can jump out of the gym. Those two alone are going to get him plenty of playing time from coaches. He can work on the shooting and ball-handling in a professional practice environment every day instead of having to deal with class and school.

And your whole notion that waiting a year will result in being a higher draft pick is just wrong. The 2022 draft class is just as loaded if not more. He'd be risking a guaranteed top 10 spot by coming back to school.

It's just reality. Look at the 4 and even some 5 stars sitting on the bench at Bama and Georgia...

Which eventually means their talent is capped and the gap can be closed quicker.

I'm not worrying about Bama (Saban's the GOAT), but we can catch Florida and UGA which should be our one and only goal over the next 3-4 years.

Pruitt had the resume to sell that hope for a while. People believed he had the ability to Phoenix this program from the ash pile, and players thought he was their ticket to the next level.

Henry T has not built a relationship with this staff. He spent the least amount of time possible in Knoxville when he came to campus to take his exam and was not involved in team activities. He would rather be elsewhere.
Does he have many friends on the team? Seems to me he’s ducking out on any would be friendships he has.

Anyone who says Keon Johnson should return is completely detached from the financial realities of being a 19 year old.

The 15th pick in the NBA draft had a guaranteed 2 year contract of 6 million dollars in 2019. The 6th pick had a guaranteed contract of 12 million over 2 years. The difference from $0 to $6 million is a lot more drastic than the difference between $6 million and $12 million.

And then, when the player is able to hit free agency a year earlier, and if they do amount to anything as an NBA player that difference is completely offset in year 5.

And if you stand out, they don’t let you reach the end of the contract.

Yes I do. Keon is small to play the 3 and doesn't score well enough to play the 2. Add in his dribbling issues and he'd be ripped for everything he has. Keon comes back gets a little bigger, learns to dribble better and shoots the 3 over a 30% clips he's easily a top 3 pick.

He should definitely go, but if he wants to come back im all for it!
If he comes back it looks like it would only be because he couldn't go where he really wanted. If that was the case, I would rather be less talented with someone that truly wanted to be here.

Jump when he's not ready so he ends up in the G league or wait one more year and get a second contract. Hmmm tough decision.
He’s a top ten pick.... That’s guaranteed millions. If he were 15 or below you have a decent argument but top ten picks come with lots of benefits and barring some horrendous situation like Anthony Bennett etc. they’re going to keep you on the roster for at least 3 years. Springer could benefit more than Keon. He’s 19 and crazy athletic. Kids comeback to improve their stock. Not much higher will you go than top 10. He’s be an idiot to come back.

Keon's offensive ability isn't why he's a lottery pick. He's arguably the most explosive athlete in the draft alongside Jalen Green. Also might be the best wing on ball defender in the draft. He'll get minutes in the league just from playing defense. The rest will come.

The 3 and 2 are interchangeable in today's game anyways. Positions don't mean anything in the modern NBA.

Or he can just follow Jaylen Brown's career arch who his game most resembles at this point. Work on his game for the first 2-3 years, explode in the final year of his rookie contract, become a max player. He doesn't need to shoot 30% from 3 in college another year to become a superstar NBA player. The league can teach him to become a better shooter than college can anyways
