East Tennessee Weather II

Update:

To start off, the good news is that the moderate risk has been removed. I think I can safely say that we won't be seeing multiple strong tornadoes in our neck of the woods.

There is still an enhanced risk of severe storms for the western half of East TN, and a slight risk for the eastern half. Damaging winds up to 70 mph is looking to be the more primary threat when the storms roll in overnight, but still can't rule out an isolated tornado or 2, as the wind shear is still very strong.

Is this thing going to be a bust?

For Western TN and Northern MS...both areas that have been part of moderate or high risk the twice in the past 7 days - total bust (thankfully). I don't think there's been a tornado warned storm in Western TN either event with moderate/high risk.

The "epicenter" today was to be around Tupelo, MS. It ended up being south of Birmingham.

So what changed that kept this from getting so bad?

I'm not sure about East TN but in West TN/Northern MS, the early morning convection followed by a significant forecast miss in how far north/timing of the more unstable air thankfully caused two busts here in the past week.

So what changed that kept this from getting so bad?

The secondary warm front didn't come into East TN until after sunset, and that was the front that was going to initiate the bad storms that were seen in Georgia and Alabama. With the warm front lagging behind south of us, the rain that we got in the late afternoon/early evening hours kept the atmosphere rain cooled and stable.
