I have said this in here before, but I truly believe that the Pitt game is a make or break game for us this year.

If we win the Pitt game then we will start the season 3-1 with our only loss being to Florida, at that point our next 3 games, which are widely considered tossups (@Mizzou, vs USCjr, and OM) are more than likely W’s, in which, we should go 2-1 during this stretch. Then we are heading into the Bama game 5-2. At this point we likely will end up 8-4 and things with recruiting will skyrocket.

Now lets say we lose to Pitt. We likely end September 2-2 and those 3 tossups are now likely L’s and we go 1-2 during that stretch and enter the Bama game 3-4, at that point 5-7 or 6-6 is best case, and our recruiting wont be as good.

This is why imo the Pitt game is the most important game on our schedule
Who says we lose to Florida? With this offense, you can win any Saturday. But you can also lose any Saturday....

I've been reading many of the post and everyone's speculation on the upcoming year and I must admit it is rather amusing, everything from sunshine pumping to gloom and doom. I personally don't believe we are as bad off as many suggest and with that being said I don't expect us to be playing in the SEC championship game either.

We lost some key players sure but so does everybody else. We also need to remember there is talent on this team that has not yet been given a chance to play. I really think many of the one's that chose to leave to honest really did not play up to anywhere near the hype they were given from day one. It may very well be that they were not placed in a position to succeed but it may be they just weren't as good as advertised or not willing to do what it takes to get better.

NONE of us really has any idea what this NEW staff will do and we have no idea other than a snippet or two from a few "Insider's" of how this team is responding to the coaching and philosophies of this staff as a team dynamic and that is the key.

Every successful team has talent but not every talented team is successful. I think we have the talent and more talent that all but a few of the teams we will face this year. If this staff can take the players we have and get the buy in that is required to win then this team will surprise a lot of people this year and I believe they can plus with that success the talent that it takes to compete at the highest level will naturally filter back in. Lets just give them a chance and enjoy the process for a change, we should have all learned by now that winning is not an automatic thing and hopefully we are finally on the right track.

Meh. 1 games has a bit of predictive value, sure, but I wouldn't blow it out of proportion either.

1) We started 2-0 last year and got ran the rest of the way.

2) We started 0-2 the year before (as people said that was proof we couldn't beat anyone but 1 fcs team the rest of the way) and went 8-3 down the stretch.

An early win/loss isn't everything - I think the margin and causes matter. If Pitt beats us by 30...yes that is not good. But if we're missing our best player and lose in the last minute like vs BYU...much less worried.

Pitt may also turn out pretty good like BYU did. Jmo they could be better than vandy, usc, mizzou, maybe uk and ole miss.

That said, I expect us to beat Pitt by 7-14 and get our 7+ win season on track.

Nick: bingo! I actually think the trend will look something like that. We all want a hockey stick that shoots straight up to championships by years 4 & 5, but that’s just not happening no matter who the coach is.

I’m thinking a slow, steady climb with championship caliber squads maybe towards the end of the decade.

Did they move the game days for the tourney for Covid or was it for better viewership?

...or was Covid the excuse for viewership? Hard to imagine anyone would take advantage of this pandemic...

I think the excuse was an extra day for testing, but i think ive read they plan on sticking to it for next year.

Watching Golesh presser, I like him...

Quick mental note: in 2016, a lot of us complained that the offense couldn’t find a way to get Hurd and AK on the field at the same time. I have a gut feeling that this staff will find a way to make those kind of moves if needed and get the best players on the field.

Good to hear J. Small is standing out. I like him.
