You should look it up.

They legit had ONE DUMBBELL RACK and that was it and the men’s tourney had a full setup. And it is absolutely about their gender. Would’ve never happened for the men even at schools that don’t make money from bball.

I can’t believe there are people here who side with the NCAA. Such a corrupt joke of an organization.
I agree that their set up was/is disgraceful if as you describe. I disagree it's about gender. I'm not siding with the NCAA, I'm acknowledging reality. More people should support women's basketball. Most people screaming about gender inequality won't be backing that up by actually buying tickets to games to support these women. It's easy to complain, but harder to do something about it.

Not directed at you per se but one can’t be screaming “they’re amateurs and STUDENTS before athletes” in one breath and “it’s all about the money” in the next breath and expect to be taken seriously.

If they want to run it like a business then run it like a business and pay your employees.
If you're going to run it like a business, universities need to be able to cut sports that don't generate a revenue. Football and men's basketball are really the only two college sports that generate money. They fund all the sports that do not. But if you pay football and basketball players, you're forced to pay all those other athletes as well in the name of "fairness". So if you want to run it like a business, those sports that operate at a loss need to go, which unfortunately would probably doom most women's sports.

How much? $15 per hour, federally mandated? That is such a small amount relative to the value of what they receive in kind it would change nothing for major schools, but would be a significant burden to small ones. Careful what you wish for.

With all the tough times in Tennessee sports right now I want to reminisce about the time I took my kids to a high school playoff game. I think it was 1997 and I brought my daughter (age 11) and son (age 9) to my old high school Sevier County hosting Murfreesboro Riverdale. The Bears had Joey Matthews a Tennessee commit and Riverdale had Eric Locke a quarterback commit to Alabama. The game went Riverdale’s way and the Riverdale cheerleaders came over to our side to taunt the fans and had posters saying Joey sucked and Eric was Mr. Football. All of the sudden the air was filled with cups and water bottles being thrown at the cheerleaders. I was embarrassed for my kids from Chattanooga Red Bank to see the red neck side of my upbringing and turned to explain to my daughter that just because someone does not show good sportsmanship that there is never an excuse to be a bad sport. As I turned to my daughter I see her release her water bottle throw at the cheerleaders.
The red neck gene is dominant. Good times were shortly ahead. Tennessee wins the national championship in 98, Sevier County wins the state title in 99 and Red Bank wins the state title in 2000. I had the sports page from all 3 hanging in my office.

sometimes it isn't about money, granted we know what pays salaries

Personally, I will be laughing my ass off when that happens. People oversimplify this issue to such an extreme. Whatever solution is implemented, there will be unforeseen and unintended consequences and someone - most likely the smaller sports and women’s sports - will come out as a loser and worse off.

Or they could run it like a business and shut down non revenue, losing sectors of the business.

I wasn’t saying that Shaka has done a good job but they were wanting Barnes gone due to his failure in the tournament.... I highly doubt they are looking at it and going..... man, if we had kept Barnes then we would have made one sweet sixteen..... I think Barnes is good for Tennessee but he has twenty plus years of history and what you see is what you get from him.

Yea, well the expectation of doing something at Texas is BECAUSE of Barnes. He doubled their trips to the NCAAT in his 18 years there.

Fair enough - let the employees make their own money through NIL and don’t put limits on it. Free market. We like that here in the USA, right?

And to the statement of cutting sports - pretty much every sport besides football and some men’s bball and maybe women’s bball at every school would have to go. Baseball is a non revenue generating sport and its one of the “big 3”. So it wouldn’t just be women’s sports.

On Twitter the women were complaining about their gear not being as impressive as the guys...... The male wrestlers entered the discussion and stated the women should be happy bc the only gear they received was a water bottle.
The main issue is that we shouldn’t consider women’s and men’s basketball the same sport.... none of them could compete in the men’s game..... I think the gym thing was shameful but the rest is the difference between revenue and non-revenue sports.... it’s really that simple.

Tried tuning into the lady vols for a second. First thing I hear is Holly Rowe and some other lady bitc**** about the women not having equitable facilities compared to the men. If you had an equitable product, they would invest the same amount of money. They should be thankful for what they have.
Stupid post. Just don't watch it, then. It was a joke.

I agree with that but eventually everyone gets tired of the disappointing ending..... I think Barnes is good for us and I like him as our coach but there is always something missing from his teams.

Riverdale was a perfect blend arrogance, red neck, and thug...

Signed Oakland Grad 😂

The delivery was terrible, but the point is fundamentally correct. All major athletics are driven by the money they generate, and investment is gong to be tied to return. It's simple economics. Of course this outrage will force changes that cost money, and programs will be forced to evaluate whether the return is worth the investment. If the answer is no, programs get cut.

Again, not about revenue. I agree with it. I think the WNBA is an awful product. But, in this instance, it was a slap in the face to the athletes who have worked very hard all year in a very challenging environment. I have to believe the women's tournament makes the NCAA some money. They could have and should have done much better.

That SC run in 1999 was special. I was at the championship game in Cookeville. My wife was a teacher there at the time and we went to all home games also. Steve Brewer coached at Fulton when I went to school there in the 80s. Great coach and great man.
