Recruiting is in the toilet

Well is anyone surprised? When we hired this guy we knew it would tank... we knew the '22 instate class would go elsewhere... everyone got the feels because he's good at calling an offense, but there's much more to college football than that... and right now we are seeing the result... He's never been a P5 head coach and no one knows what to think about how he and his staff will do together in the SEC...
Most of the staff are going to have to prove they belong and can handle this pressure... Hopefully kids are waiting to see what happens this fall... that's all we have right now... after Lyle and Gump torched the place, this is what is left over...On paper, the staff looks solid with a lot of upside. Proof will be on the field. Why would any elite kid want to take a chance here right now unless they bleed orange and just wanna be a Vol?
CJH is going to have to prove he can develop existing talent and do more with less, because that is our roster right now... LESS. If they make some noise this fall, then I think we will see some kids start to trickle in, but I wouldn't expect anything lower than 25-30th for this upcoming class...
Plowman and White made the bed...

Isn't going to screw his brother. It is what it is.

If that’s the case then swing and a miss Strike 1 for Danny White.

If we can’t punish another team because it might hurt the SEC in tourney play, then a smart AD would at least parley this into gaining us a favorable football schedule for the next unscheduled season. But we’re just here bending over for the SEC elites thanking them for the opportunity to play in their league.

I agree with Jay, I think S16 is the ceiling for this team. Also Bama is the type of team that can beat Gonzaga.

KenPom has us ranked #4 in adjusted D, which is crucial stat in the ncaa. Interestingly, no team has ever won a title with a defensive ranking higher than #20 on KenPom.

He also has ranked #21 overall compared to OK State at #30. He has the Beavs at #85 overall.

If this is true DW needs to step up and defend Fulky. If he can’t get the SEC to punish Payne for assault then I doubt he’ll move us forward in other areas.
Do I think Payne deserves some kind of suspension? Yes. Do I think it serves UT's interests to push it? No. Throw your weight around when it means something.

Again, what does it get UT? How does this benefit us in anyway? It doesn't. Save your collateral for when it actually benefits you.

Problem ultimately is that Payne is a bench player, dude get's like 16 minutes a game and has a stat line that doesn't really impact their success one way or another.

Parley?
Forget it. He's rolling.

I think Org St and Ok St are decent matchups that we can go small against and as long as we dont have too many turnover we can beat them. But Illinois is a much more complete team that has a big that can be dominant. I see one of our famous scoring droughts sinking us against them.

UT will likely smack Oregon State, we the fans will feel too good about a win over a worse opponent, and then Okie State will beat UT in the round of 32.

It’s not about BENEFITTING. It’s about proper punishment for an assault of one of your own. How did Vandy BENEFIT from Jauan sitting out half a bowl game for way less?

All this is True but you left out the biggest impediment to recruiting right now..

The investigation and impending punishment. CJH has no chance to recruit well until the punishment is decided. I think UT will self impose in the fall a 1 year bowl ban and about 6 scholarship reductions. However, other schools will continue to tell recruits more punishment is on the way until the NCAA lays down the hammer.

One thing I do want to point out. I was doing some research last night and Ok St and Illinois run a similar offense as Underwood was the HC at OK St for a year, and his replacement was on Underwoods staff as well. That could be an advantage basically getting a look at their style and not having to change the defensive scheme too much in between the 2nd and 3rd game.

The two leading scorers on this team are the one-and-dones.
Yeah..so what...they are leaving us with nothing next year, just another discombobulated mess of a team. I am not a fan of pursuing one and dones...it is a dumb way to build a program.

It is great if you can add a couple of polished ones to a good established roster and get a championship run out of them, but otherwise it sucks and is ultimately harmful.

Go after talented guys that will stay long enough to build on.

Holy hell....what an ungrateful piece of work you are
Screw you..I wasn't bitching at this team..I was defending them against guys calling them a disappointment for not winning the SEC and probably not making a Final Four. I think they have done ok considering. I am not a fan of one and dones, and I have been pretty consistent about that. Those two guys don't show up at crunch time often enough, and I don't really blame them for that, they are not there yet..jeez they are freshmen...therein lies the rub..

Really feel like you should be more aggravated with the older guys on the team who have stuck around yet underperformed like Pons and Fulky.

The freshmen have done their part.

To be fair I think looking at both Springer & Keon CRB & staff probably thought they might be here longer than a season, especially with the COVID mess. I still think both could improve their games with another year here, but don't know if either will turn down a 1st round opportunity.

What's really hurt is we've not landed a real big that's been a contributor. I'd even settle for a 1 and done at this point. But missing on Kent, Burns, Walker, and all the countless recruits that went elsewhere instead of coming here has been a pain. Especially seeing inferior coaches have a few 6'10" or bigger guys that have impacts when on the court for their teams.

Eh, it's been a little bit of both. Fulky certainly looked off this year and was not as aggressive. But the freshmen (or even the guards) have been so loose with the basketball.

Springer nor Keon are PGs. They shouldn’t be handling the ball that much. Keon especially. He’s a slasher not a ball handler.

Although I do agree they’ve been loose with the ball.

I am not aggravated at them..you are misunderstanding me. I am aggravated at the situation and what is going to happen to the program next year..the Barnes bitch brigade will go off next year in full throat.

I don't blame the two kids for cashing a lottery ticket, and I swear Fulky looked to me like he has been hurting pretty bad pretty much all year. Pons is what he is, he was never going to be a scorer, I just don't think that is ever going to be one of his talents.

Those two kids would be really good and I believe the team would be really good next year with the guys coming in and whole real offseason together...but that is not happening unfortunately..it is what it is.

Bingo. But some fans just want to use the old adage well anyone can recruit to TN. Sorry but that’s just not the case anymore. However it seems there are some fans that are going to use whatever they can to bash JH and say he was a bad hire.

Our recruiting class will likely be the worst we have seen in quite a while this year. And NONE of it is JHs or his staffs fault. Fat Fulmer and the Gump made sure to give us the middle finger right after launching a torpedo into our football program.
