Gaines isn’t an SEC player. Never has been.Gaines was in the game for his defensive play. Which he did what he was supposed to do. He was subbed bc Alabama, smartly, saw the matchups and would create a mismatch with Santi on the switch vs Herb Jones. Barnes made the right adjustment. Gaines needs to take this as motivation and work on this offensive game and his free throws. Which in my opinion he should have been doing since the summer... a player can be extremely valuable to a basketball roster if they can consistently shoot 80%. The fault can’t be placed squarely on Gaines. We turned the ball over way too many times and had an opportunity to keep the lead at 10+, so he would’ve never been in that spot. Maybe this is great experience for our team in the tourney when they face adversity vs a good team...
That would have put us up a whopping 1 point with 25 seconds left. Far from a sure thing.Would have won if anyone but Ticket shot those free throws. It is what it is.
The 4 straight phantom charge calls turned the game. The refs allowed Bama to basically do whatever they wanted to us and called us for fouls. This league is corrupt and we should leave it.
Those two freshmen are good but they have to find a way to eliminate their turnovers. They each had 5 turnovers today and the team had 19 total.Gaines was in the game for his defensive play. They dont speak out because they don't want to get fined. Its not worth it because things aren't going to change. The only way for things to change is for schools to stop taking it and start speaking up. Call out bad officiating, provide proof and pay the fines. Go public, be vocal and demand better. If the SEC tries to muzzle schools for speaking up, speak louder. Staying silent lets them beat you twice.
The chance of UT speaking out: zero.
In the meantime, UT could try to remember how to protect a lead, make FTs under pressure and close out games to get the W.
