.....but it appears LK disagrees:

Kiffin said last week. “But we may not take a quarterback in this class, and I’m OK with that. I don’t want to take a quarterback that’s going to come in here and not meet our expectation level for what we’re looking at."

The question is........If Kiffin were the "great offensive mind" and "top-shelf recruiter" that many claim him to be........why can't we even get a "mediocre" QB to sign? Is the LK image we've "built" not consistent with the perception of all the recruits out there?

Isn't he also suppose to be great at "developing players" so that they live up to the "expectation level"?

Kiffin turned down both Boyd and Petty. I dont know what he sees in what we have but there better be something.....I dont know any other coach who turns down a 5 star qb

it's a waste of a scholarship to get ANOTHER "mediocre" quaterback. we have 3 of those already. We'll see if he can develop one of them to live up to the expectation level. I think that either stephens or coleman could be a descent quaterback in the right system and with the right coaching

Yeah he was. Which further exemplifies why you should pay no attention to stars....or Scout.

I agree that the rating system for recruits is not a perfect science (by any stretch of the imagination), but I would think taking a chance on a 5 star may be better than "accepting" that you may not get a QB at all.

I agree totally. Everyone assumes LK knows what he is doing. I'm not so sure.

I'm not convinced that you are even a Vol fan. Fulmer fan yes...Vol fan not so much.

Why bring in a QB that does not fit your system? So he can complain out loud about not getting to play?

We have a 5 star QB on our roster. Apparently Kiffin sees something he thinks he can work with.

If Kiffin brings in "his" QB in next year's recruiting class, we'll have a true freshman QB navigating a nasty SEC schedule in 2010. Based on Kiffin's recruiting plan, 2011 is when we should realistically expect to have a game ready QB (when "his" guy is a sophomore). Kiffin might not be around too long if that's the plan since 2011 will be his 3rd year. VolNation isn't a patient bunch of folks.

Well to be honest with ya, I think Kiffin will be able to get more out of the QB's that we have now, or I hope he can.

He will get more out of them in the first week than Clawson did in his entire time here...

And also with Adkins gone...whoever the QB is will actually get to finish a 3-step drop for a change.

Boyd would absolutely NOT have started next year. I said that all along despite a lot of people thinking he would earn the job. I don't think he would have. And I don't think he would have the following year either. Coleman is a better fit for the system and is right on track with his development. If Cut had never left and the offense had never changed, there is no reason Coleman would not be on track to take over the starting QB duties either when Crompton is gone, or over Crompton potentially.

So Kiffin turned down a guy that did not fit his system and would not have started over any QB we have on our roster. How could that be bad for the program?

..right on cue:

Love Vols = Love Kiffin.

I don't think so.

Regardless of the "logic" you might be spewing, if LK doesn't get a QB in the next couple of years, you won't be loving him either. We need a QB now, and for him to say "it's not important" or to insinuate that it isn't a top priority is B.S.

Sounds to me like he is already lowering expectations for the incoming recruiting class.

You might want to go to the recruiting forum which has a great wealth about the future QB's that Kiffin is targeting. This class isn't make or break either, catch a clue and get a grip.

Why don't we fire Kiffin now? Maybe we can get him an unlimited credit card to hit all the strip clubs like Alabama did with Price.

Phil Fulmer lowered my expectations. I used to expect to win an SEC championship more than once a decade.

I admire a coach who will not just get a 5 star recruit on board for the heck of it, all the while knowing the kid will not play 1 down for him.

It's fairly obvious that he doesn't possess the mental capacity required to grasp any part of the recruiting process. Just from what I've gathered.
