We now take you to another live shot of the University of Tennessee Defensive Coordinator search.....

Y'all can say what you want, but refusing to black list a friend and colleague of 20 years on the back of unsubstantiated accusations shows character... Not a lack of character. Jmo.

Like Urban or not, the convenient thing to do would be to hire someone else and avoid the criticism. I can respect someone who does what they think is right instead of what is convenient. Especially these days.
Wrong. He didn't do that out of some moral stonghold to extended justice to a friend that had been wronged. He did it, like he said in his press conference, because he thinks he will give them the best strength program in the NFL. He thinks he can help him win. End of story.

Tim Banks coached at Memphis for a couple seasons. African-American. Aggressive defense. There is definetely a profile being followed. I like it. Shows we know what we need and we don't settle for a "name" just to try and save face with the media and fans. Get who you think is going to fit correctly and don't worry about anything else.

I like your perspective. And, I hope you're right.

While you idiots are at it, tell Ashley’s dad he’s an idiot too. @ob79 he isn’t and neither is @Atlanta VOL Also @InVOLuntary and others who know the legitimacy of a man whose whole life and his fathers supported Tennessee. He’s not posting because he’s been told not to. However, he really tried to give the insight he could and it doesn’t disappoint me the newbies spouting off as much as you guys who know better.

I hope he never post again here. You guys deserve to wallow in your misery.

I really like your post - except the last line! I hope he comes back, I enjoy his posts and miss his insights!

Apparently they are trying a new strategy and not going to hire a DC. Hire everyone on the offensive side, recruiting office and defensive staff, but no DC.

It's crazy enough that it just might work!!

If they use Barnes as the DC, will they have to pay him extra? The basketVols usually do ok on that side...

I am fairly confident that JH would have had his DC locked in already if he was controlling it.
Yeah, I imagine that's true. Just seems we have paralysis by analysis, and we're forcing something behind the scenes that these coaches don't like.

We're getting a lot of folks with initial interest in the job - then for some reason they all back out after an interview or two.

He thought he was getting away from that b.s., when he left the college game. Think Urban is in for a rude awakening.

That is a bit alarming to me.

More alarming to me would be if LA's post a few days ago about the diversity hire initiative indicated that this decision was being driven by those above White. Perhaps White was charged with making a diversity hire at the coordinator, if not the HC, level by his superiors. Maybe this is being driven to appease some of the non-athletic leaders within the University, maybe this is all bunk if not just a reach. But there is at least some circumstantial evidence that could support it. Combined with the history of academia meddling and BVS, it's just sort of how we can assume the worst.

Some of these unnamed sources are probably why our fanbase is considered "toxic" from the outside looking in.

They drop info to get our hopes up. We all lap it up. Then they drop in an anonymous tidbit telling us about a scenario that will obviously make us doubt the leadership. We are screwed.

We'll probably make a normal hire eventually and we'll write the narrative around it ourselves with some help from these "sources".

Some folks will hold onto that info and they will bring it up 2 years from now like it's fact. When in fact, we don't know anything that can be considered truth.

Rinse. Repeat.

I'm convinced the people benefitting from the clicks on websites like these is behind these "nuggets". It works like magic and lines their pockets. Follow the money. The more drama at Tennessee there is, the more money they make.

I have a feeling many of these "sources" realized how rich they could get after Kiffin left and engagement in spaces like this exploded.

Just my 2 cents. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Ever drive by a bar, and there's two dudes out in the parking lot fighting?
You know it's none of your business, so you keep going, but you just can't look away.

That's what this DC search feels like to me ... not the fighting part, but ... I just can't look away.
I'm tired of it, but I feel this inward need to see it thru to the end. I just can't look away.

Didn’t Kiffin fire him when he first got here because he didn’t know it was Cut’s adopted son or something? Then Cut called and got him unfired. I feel like that happened.
I’ll bow to your recollection. Had no inkling of his existence before that tweet. 😉
