I really don’t blame you guys but the reaction to Baker is exactly what no coach in their right mind should want this DC job.
Here’s why.
the resume Buiding year as discussed here for Baker was 2019 at Miami where he had a really nice high Nationally ranked defense. Guess what that got the hurricaneS???
A 6-7 LOSING SEASON with a bad offense.
now everyone claiming, including his defense minded HC, that he ruined their defense. Well he didn’t ruin the defense, 2020 was a year no one played any defense. In fact the hurricanes had a damn good offense. So what did him “ruining” their defense get them??
A 7-2 WINNING RECORD. A dang good year
And this is exactly why a DC can’t “win” the resume game here and it’s career suicide for anyone to take this job
I’ve decided I’m going to let folks do their jobs and I’m going to carry on unaffected.Right now the only people who look like fools are the fans.
It’s clear the school wouldn’t get its first choices.
it didn’t.
here’s what reality looks like:
we hired the best guys who want to be here.
If the negotiations went too long for your likings then you guys have no grasp on reality not any business sense.
We’re in the process of hiring a staff after the previous AD/coach created a ****ing mess.
It’s incredible. We are a fan base full of Phil Fulmer’s who still think it’s 1999. So much so that this place was in love with Fulmer being named AD
LOL insanity!
I really hate what this has become. I get that DW and JH are working with a train wreck, but they're gonna absorb a lot of the fan frustration caused by 15 years of incompetence. Having to settle for third, fourth, or on down the line choices crushes my Volunteer pride. Maybe I take UT football too seriously, because this **** hurts. But I don't know how to turn it off. I have no idea how we're gonna get kids in here when we're struggling to find coaches. I appreciate that some of you have optimism and want to think positively, but all I feel at the moment is doom and gloom. I can't help but feel we're in a hopeless situation.
And before anyone decides to attack me for my opinion, please note I'm not insulting anyone, just expressing my point of view.
Why? They should have a list and be going straight down it with guys that meet what they are looking for.... it doesn’t matter what number on the list that person is.... there is no guarantee no matter who we get.I really hate what this has become. It's not just Vol fans. But the constant over reaction to every tiny thing is exhausting. I mean at halftime of every basketball game this place demands the best coach we've had in years be fired and replaced in the second half. Sometimes it's so bad i go look up the score and we're only winning by a little. Some people feel like every detail needs a reaction and every problem needs someone to blame. Doesn't just apply to Vols, or even just sports.Do you think we are the only fanbase who acts like this? There are plenty of others who are just as, if not more, demanding. I will agree that there is an element of Vol Twitter that hurts us way more than helps us.

It does matter though, particularly in this league. The further down the list you go the less likely that candidate can get the support staff needed to compete at this level. It's not the end all be all but to pretend it doesn't matter is simply wrong. Why? It’s why I couldn’t be an AD..... I would fire every coach after every loss.... I have gotten better though.... I start thinking rationally by Monday or Tuesday now. It's not just Vol fans.
