So they went big for Franklin and Washington - giving them days to work out better deals/situations from their current employers. This group's version of going Full Gundy.

Go hire a guy that is 100% committed to the opportunity at UT.

You can’t force people to take the job. The dudes that you get that are “committed” are ones you won’t like.

If we had gone all in for Elliott from the beginning, he would be our coach right now. He was already starting to assemble a staff and put out feelers. We waited and tried for Franklin first. Then many around Elliott convinced him to stay and wait. If we had made him an offer first and gone all in he would be our coach today.
I dont believe that for a second. Only a fool would turn down a job he wanted because he wasn't the first choice. He would have gotten talked out of it either way because he didn't want to be here.

I take it you think Elliott would be a better hire than Heupel? Not sure I agree with that. One has been a successful B12 and SEC OC as well as a quality G5 HC for 3 seasons. The other has been a successful ACC OC. One jumped at the opportunity, the other was talked out of jumping at the opportunity and given more money where he is. That doesn't square for me.

Who would that be.....I think that is our issue at this point.

I really hate what this has become. I get that DW and JH are working with a train wreck, but they're gonna absorb a lot of the fan frustration caused by 15 years of incompetence. Having to settle for third, fourth, or on down the line choices crushes my Volunteer pride. Maybe I take UT football too seriously, because this **** hurts. But I don't know how to turn it off. I have no idea how we're gonna get kids in here when we're struggling to find coaches. I appreciate that some of you have optimism and want to think positively, but all I feel at the moment is doom and gloom. I can't help but feel we're in a hopeless situation.

And before anyone decides to attack me for my opinion, please note I'm not insulting anyone, just expressing my point of view.

I’m not saying that at all. And didn’t say that. Time will tell as Elliott will be a head coach somewhere soon. But I know Elliott would have brought an all star staff. I like our hires for offense, but everyone knew we had to nail the DC hire and defensive assistants. If it’s Baker and Willie comes along, well that isn’t a good start.
