If you are seriously suggesting that other programs don't pay players, I don't know what to tell you? Are you equating paying recruits to come to a school, which is only illegal in the mind of the NCAA, to beating your wife? That is probably the logic Plowman used as well

Other programs or “every program”. Let’s not move the goal post. No every program isn’t paying players. And the obvious comparison here is when you do something terrible and then justify it by saying “everyone else does it too”.

This is a massive failure on Dan's part. I am not adverse to stating that unequivocally. The failure to open up and sell additional avenues when the initial candidate pool started breaking down is a massive AD failure for someone with such potential and expectations. This taints Dan for his entire tenure as UTAD. If incapable of getting an appropriate coach, you have to set a new culture while you take your lumps. This hire does not adequately do that, and he is not capable of winning games at Tennessee at this point in time. I think Dan knows that deep inside, and that is a failure.

Heupel is better than Kiffin, plus Kiffin did not want to come here.

Frankly, if Heupel looked like Kiffin and had a dad that was in the NFL, many people would be more excited.

EVERY MAJOR PROGRAM PAYS PLAYERS, define "terrible". Paying someone a few thousand dollars to play at a school that brings in millions isn't "terrible" by any stretch of the imagination. If you are so obsessed with "clean" football I suggest you become a fan of Fordham

Yo lemme get the Powerball numbers, since you can see the future and ****. Or are you just crying like a ***** because they didn't hire who you thought they should??

Don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out.

We can’t do better than that?? I appreciate your information. But I can’t help but think that boosters and the leadership at UT has killed this program! The fans have been loyal since Fulmer was fired and we still get a **** sandwich. Maybe it will be okay. IDK

Not to pick, and this is just my opinion, but "no, we can't do better than that." Not right now. It is what it is.

The Vols are going to be terrible the next couple of years no matter who the HC is. The alternative would have been to go with Steele as an interim and try to make a splashier hire next year. Had White done that, this forum would explode with people bitching about the wasted recruiting classes, etc., and the "we are paying a gillion dollars to an AD and he hires an interim" chatter. There is no pleasing some people.

I am not directing this to you, but I encourage all Vol fans to give up this sense of entitlement, that the Vols "deserve" a "proven, offensive minded, winning record, coach with previous P5 HC experience, [fill in the blank for fan's demands regarding the coaching hire]. White is one of the best in the business, and he settled on Huepel as the best available option right now. Again, the best available option right now. This forum is full of armchair, keyboard ADs who would second guess the hiring of anyone not named Nick Saban. And if UT had hired Saban 10 years ago they would have second guessed that too.

Postscript: UT was never going to hire Hugh Freeze. I realize he's (supposedly) available and wants the job, but when the program staring down the barrel of NCAA violations its not the time to hire a guy with that much baggage. JMHO.

AtlantaVol has proven to be a fraud time and time again. He probably just repeats what he reads on paysites. Tidbits of truth sprinkled with a heaping helping of BS.

That’s false. But the issue is you can’t cheat once you’ve been caught, or in this case turned yourself in to avoid a buyout.

Few major programs that do pay players are stupid enough to use the HC as a fall guy in order to avoid the buyout. Very cheap of Tennessee.

You don’t think that if most major programs cheat and pay players, but we use that against that against our coach at our leisure, that’s going to scare off most coaches, clean or not?

We weren’t getting one without a blemish this time. That blemish can’t be bringing in their own history of cheating, ours is enough right now

Is that really saying much?
No it’s not, but the gig has gotten progressively worse over time as well on top of the impending NCAA sanctions. We could’ve done a lot worse and I’m hopeful we can at least string together some winning seasons before we move on to the guy that can compete for the SEC year in and out.

Sure it is. Let me get this straight, players are offered thousands of dollars to go to UT to play football but mysteriously sign elsewhere just for the glory of wearing that team's jersey? Gotcha, sounds legit. I guess you think Mims went to Georgia due to his undying love of UGA football. Is every payer paid from the long snapper to the the third string qb? Probably not. Reggie Bush, Cam Newton, etc. those were just rare exceptions to the rule

What religious views did I mock?

mfrantom, I will also apologize for what I thought, even though I did not post! I thought you were comparing the "inside" information to the information in the Bible. I had to re-read your post to understand you were not. I am sorry I thought what I did, even if only momentarily!

It is true that overcoming the low class and low intelligence fans, of which you are a perfect representation, is difficult.
