Top five. I think he pulls a good staff together and he is a great recruiter. Big risk hire. Could he be Ryan Day or will he fail like Pruitt?Eh, I'm not trying to convince myself of anything.
I always thought the hire would have some warts or question marks. At least with Elliott I can see the vision. I think we will have a Top 8 class in 2022 if he's the pick.
Exactly my point with Clemson. Don't look at who they let leave look at who they paid to keep. Theres a reason Dabo and Clemson ponied up 1.8 for Venables and Elliott. Theres also a reason Saban is ok with a revolving door of assistants.Dabo is a really good recruiter...also does a really good job of hiring good assistants and letting them do their jobs. I don't think he is head and shoulders better than everyone with X's and O's. But he knows what he is good at and does it really well obviously.
One thing we (or at least I) have overlooked is Danny White has experience bringing a coordinator to the HC role and understands the challenges. Plus he is hired his compliance guy so he intends to build a strong program. Neither Fulmer, Currie nor Hamilton had experience in training and educating a first time HC.I think if we can't secure an A lister, Elliot isn't the worst thing. He's offensive oriented. He can recruit. Its the management side for me. Can he handle the external forces being the head man? Who knows. Everyone started as an assistant coach. Maybe he handles it.
I'd bet money that basilio is right. Tennessee fans just don't want to accept it. You guys are fans of a program that won't hire kiffin or freeze but would hire absolutely terrible coaches over them. tennessee will not hire the best coach available. That's a FACT.Sonny Dykes has turned us down is being reported outside the Basilio camp now. Whether they’re just echoing Basilio remains to be seen.
Exactly my thoughts when he posted.I appreciate Atlanta Vol's posts, and I'm not saying I *totally* believe this to be the case, but he said himself at the beginning of the search that he's just going to drop by to give some positive vibes. I would not be surprised if he's trying to keep everyone calm by being reassuring while we plan out a Tony Elliott hire that he knows will be met with mixed reception.
Basically, he has shown a willingness to stretch the truth and be very selective with the information he gives out.
napier isn't really an option based on his prerequisites for taking a jobI would rather go with one of the top mid major HC's (Napier, Fickell, Chadwell) or (Kiffin, Freeze, Herman) than the coordinator route. I think HC experience is important given our current situation. I especially don't understand why you wouldn't make Bob Stoops a substantial offer.
