If it's Elliott, can easily envision a great staff to support him, that he knows, and that can all be on the same page from day one.

On offense, retain Tee and Jay (who he knows and has worked with), and pay a ton of money to get a good O-line coach.

Retain Kevin Steele, make Kevin Simon and on-field coach, bring in Rodney Garner, and see if we can retain Ansley to coach the secondary.

That's a staff that will clean up in recruiting on the 2022 class and put us in a position to compete in 2022.
How the hell would that staff clean up in recruiting? Thats mostly hold overs from the last staff and they couldn't clean up in recruiting while cheating.

I still don't understand why the penalties are such a deal breaker.

1. The NCAA is close to two years out before hearing the case. Unless we self impose it will be year three before penalties kick in.

2. DW is supposed to know his way around the AA and should be able to mitigate damages.

3. Scholarship reductions are not as bad as before the 25 hard cap. It's not uncommon to run under 85 anyway. Underachieving players are nudged out. It affects the bottom of the roster, not the top.

I think it's the cumulative effect. This + that + this and that + everything else = a lot to overcome, with the expectation that it can be overcome quickly. Admin can call for patience, but they're unlikely to get it for long at a beaten-down program desperate to win now in an unforgiving conference.

we say that ever time we have a new coach. lol. and this situation is arguably the WORST situation left for the new guy, but he's supposed to be competing by year 3?

the roster is a shadow of its former self, and this class is far from a complete class, we'll be starting over on the 22 class.

but by year 3....compete or....else?

c'mon....isn't that line of thought getting just a little tiresome?
I think the roster is pretty decent. If we can get some of the portal guys back into the fold, we have some decent talent.

How is everyone against Tony Elliott? JEREMY PRUITT was our coach last week.

I don't think people are against him. I think they are concerned he has no experience as HC and the job may be too big for him. We just fired one coordinator and might hire another. I think concerns are legitimate.

I’d argue butch had by far a worst roster. Dooley didn’t recruit a single offensive lineman his last 2 years.
either way, i said arguably...lol. none of the other guy shave had the NCAA cloud looming.....that was more or less the backbone of that statement.

To pass the time. Shane Beamer, Clark Lea or Tony Elliot? Who would have hired the better coach?

I just don’t buy VQ making it up

I do buy 247 making it up after the VQ report but Vq wouldn’t do that
We could've had a discussion without actually making an offer. Ballpark talks to see if we are anywhere close. Im at a point where I think every name in the media should be taken with a grain of salt.

I think Tony is where this board was last night. He is a fan about all else. This is what the Vol Fan's mind runs to when there is no good information. We're all living in Plato's Cave right now, seeing shadows on the wall and thinking they represent reality.

I assure you there’s nothing good going on in my cave.

They're exactly the same
1. No experience, check
2. At a place that had success before their arrival, check
3. Had the best players in the country in place, check
4. Never had to develop, check
Head coach is all about personality/temperament. TE and Pruitt couldn’t be more different when it comes to that. Pruitt was a dumbass hot head that no one wanted to work for. Hence why we had to hire complete losers last offseason

I think if we can't secure an A lister, Elliot isn't the worst thing. He's offensive oriented. He can recruit. Its the management side for me. Can he handle the external forces being the head man? Who knows. Everyone started as an assistant coach. Maybe he handles it.
Biggest difference is that most, not all, start off at a lower tiered school, become successful or not, then get the SEC job. Or they are successful assistants at already successful schools and become successful at said school. Dabo being the exception in this case since he inherited a mediocre program

Lets just keep in mind, some of the same media folks are saying “DW is keeping information on lockdown, no leaks with this search”

So when those same guys then say “Here’s who I’m hearing...” ya have to question what part is the lie? Cause the only consistent thing I’ve seen is almost everyone (media & insiders) are saying DW isn’t sharing information.

I get everyone’s points on TE vs Pruitt. There are similarities but Pruitt will go down as potentially the worst coach in TN history. I would take just about anyone over him. Except Sonny.

For me it’s all about buying into the person that Tony Elliot is. His resume isn’t going to knock anyone’s shoes off but the way his players and people in the industry respect him and like him it the most important thing to me. I think tony Elliot is a modern version of David cutcliffe when he was hired by Ole Miss. i will fully support him and hitch my wagon to him if he is our guy.
Absolutely!! Coaching today is as much about personality and relating to kids as anything. Elliott from all indications is a guy players will run through a brick wall for. He has an innovative and adaptable Offensive style. He would need a strong DC. Steele, despite all the crap thrown at him on here, is one of the best DCs and he runs a system where is players actually understand and can line up. White will be handling the NCAA. I am biased, but the best evaluators of football coaches is other football coaches. He's not my first choice, but he is a damn good football coach and would be head and shoulders above the last three.

To pass the time. Shane Beamer, Clark Lea or Tony Elliot? Who would have hired the better coach?
Beamer has never called plays. He's going to be an absolute embarrasement for SC.

Lea might have a better resume than Elliot, but defensive coaches aren't pushing the needle in today's game. I'd likely go with Elliot. He'd recruit the best, at the very least.

I think the roster is pretty decent. If we can get some of the portal guys back into the fold, we have some decent talent.
We lacked talent all over the defense. We now have less. You can't compete without a solid 2 deep in this league and it will take us every bit of 3 to 5 years to build rebuild it given our current challenges. And that's a best case scenario.

I appreciate Atlanta Vol's posts, and I'm not saying I *totally* believe this to be the case, but he said himself at the beginning of the search that he's just going to drop by to give some positive vibes. I would not be surprised if he's trying to keep everyone calm by being reassuring while we plan out a Tony Elliott hire that he knows will be met with mixed reception.

Basically, he has shown a willingness to stretch the truth and be very selective with the information he gives out.

Local sports radio here in SC say tony Elliott would be an idiot to take the tennessee job. He’d have better options open up if he waits it out, places he wouldn’t be destined to fail. They also said South Carolina will recover before tennessee does because we’re beyond fixing.
