What sucks if this hire is subpar and not a big name it won’t be for lack of trying and we will know we are an afterthought in the college football world and coaches don’t see us as top tier program anymore.

Honestly, if we can't get a big name, I hope we just try something different. No more Pruitt-esque hires. No more SEC B-team staffs.

not to throw a wet blanket on top of our pity party here....but what about the last 3 searches indicated otherwise? lol.

we got told "no"....a lot.....before we wound up with the likes of who we wound up with.....

We weren’t willing to spend. By all accounts we are throwing money around.

Question to the group:

Given the times in which we live, and given the scandal that happened at Penn St before he got there, why do y'all think James Franklin faced no serious opposition when Penn St offered him the job, or faced no serious calls for his firing/resignation when he got dragged into that rape trial?

He seemingly had a benefit of the doubt that was not afforded to others who have been caught up in similar situations related to sex crimes.

My honest opinion...big sports media has a major northeast coast bias, and that at least played some role in PSU being treated with kid gloves, almost like the media was rooting for Penn St to be able to successfully move on from the Sandusky mess. Think they would have been pulling for us under those circumstances? I sure don’t.

I also think the scandal happening at Vanderbilt (old money + academic elite = respectable) made it easy for some to see it as an exception to rule at that university whereas at a public university it might have been perceived differently.

So Franklin probably benefited from a mix of regional bias and class bias. That may not account for it 100%, but I bet it didn’t hurt.

You mean how everyone has viewed our program for the last decade besides us

I may be in the minority here but Smart is the biggest underachiever in football. Franklin is a far superior coach.
I agree. But he will continue to draw the pick of the litter in Georgia, which is a HUGE advantage. If Franklin can cut into that at all, I think he'll be quite successful. UT recruits itself to a certain extent, but to bring a big dog like Franklin in, I would hope that we could recruit top 10 year after year. That's really all we would need. Franklin with top 10 talent can beat Smart with top 5 talent.
