They have been under mandatory salary reductions across the board for a while now. There was a report somewhere that Campbell took a large pay cut this year so that his assistants would not have to. I think 10% cuts from all athletic salaries, including FB. Could be wrong though.

Iowa State is trying to figure out how to renegotiate Campbell and a couple coordinator's salaries to give them raises when they just lost $25M last year. That's a tough sell to the rest of the AD and the university. Especially since it'll have to be a hefty raise given Campbell's popularity with the NFL and now us.

Look, Athletic departments are in dire straits now. They are asking people to take pay cuts to keep the lights on. If Campbell really is as modest as he's been depicted, they probably expect he'll sacrifice a little for the good of the program.
