This is why I think we should look at coaches with strong overall resumes who may have had a down season or two recently. Guys who need to "reset their clock" somewhere else. If they have strong teams they are unlikely to leave to take over a dumpster fire.

Dan Mullen had a top 10 caliber team coming back for the 2018 season at Miss State, when he left. I couldn’t believe he left that team. Strange things happen.

I have no idea if we have a shot at Campbell, but it has happened before.

Chadwell is literally 4 points away from being an almost unanimous "want" by the fanbase. Just needed to beat Liberty in the Cure Bowl. If he was 12-0 with a win over Freeze, it would be a no-brainer around here.

Elliott is making 1.8 as an OC it would probably take big money to get him and hopefully beyond hope he can bring Venables with him.

Why would Venables entertain leaving Clemson? That man seems to have it made there.

There are totally risks going the coordinator route with Elliott.

There are also huge risk going lower level with guys like Chadwell/Napier, regardless of their success at that level.

Overall, I want one of Campbell/Kiffin, but if they’re unavailable and we’re looking at the OC/G5 stack, I’d be totally fine if DW thinks Elliott is the best choice. He’s better suited at quantifying those risks/rewards and has proven it at both of his stops so far.

Regardless of what you hear, Kiffin is NOT unavailable. Tennessee just doesn't have the balls.

Here is another thing with Elliott..... Clemson looked awful against Ohio St without him there, that lends a bit of credibility that he is a good coach. Also working with Clemson he has re cruiting ties to where TN recruits. Lastly he gives us a good shot at getting Simpson.

I dunno. I worry about Elliot coming from the situation he’s in at Clemson to our mess of a situation. Personally, I feel like we need someone that’s built a program.

This. He hasn't coached against superior talent in ages. Anyone looks good when they play 2 games a year against equal talent and 0 against superior talent. He has no experience building. He's just an X/I guy so far, being a head coach is a totally different job.

The red flags were out with Pruitt. It was known that he was a raging ******* people didn't want to work with.
Everyone sings Elliott's praises.
Completely different scenarios.

So, I see overnight while I was away we’ve transitioned from “It’s Campbell!” to now convincing ourselves Tony Elliot would be a slam dunk.

I’m happy for those that are in that mindset, and I’m trying to not be negative, but I just can’t do another coordinator. I’m sorry I just can’t. I’m through with the unproven coordinator experiment.

I’m also tired of hiring coordinators that have made their living off of the cream of the crop talent. There is NOTHING that would excited me about Tony Elliot.

There are a number of other coaches out there I could get behind, but I just can’t live through another 3-4 year coordinator experiment. We all know how this ends.

Elliott would be a name that the national media loves. He also has ties to top guys. What kind of staff he could put together is a big question mark but he is intriguing. My biggest worry is if Dabo leaves for Bama in 3 years does Clemson come calling.

You want to talk about diversions Elliot would be a solid and reasonable diversion. He doesn't excite everyone, but he isn't meh either. Perfect to keep us occupied why DW fights for his big gun confidentially

You know that isn't true at all. Elliott is actually liked as a person. A ton of schools have interviewed him. CFB would sing his praise and he would be a minority coach at a premiere football school in the south. Recruits and families would love it.

Who cares. We have little talent. We are in the dumps. We are facing sanctions. Don’t care he’s a minority. We need a winner, someone with experience. The coordinator route is a no go and would be insanely stupid based upon our present situation. He is not the answer to what we need. Would take a miracle for him to succeed here

I just don't think this fanbase needs or wants another project/experiment.
