I have.

David Shaw has won fewer than 8 games one time, last year (4-8). Besides that, he has won 9 or more games every single year except for 2014 (8-5). The two years prior to last year, by far his worst year, he was 9-5 and 9-4. Youre crazy if you think he has been "falling dramatically".

I can kind of understand why you would say that about Patterson; but, if you look at his record, he has usually bounced back after a couple of bad seasons.

Maybe you and I have a different definition of what falling dramatically is but this is how I’d define it

Shaw:
First 6 years 62-17 .785 winning %
Last 4 years 26-20 .565winning %

Patterson
First 10 years 103-23 .818 winning %
Last 7 years 52-34 .605 winning %

Those are seriously dramatic drops to me

Not a fan of the Rooney Rule for one reason. It creates and perpetuates the token effect. The idea of interviewing one minority candidate just because he's a minority is insulting. People should be hired on merit, not race. I don't think any minority candidate wants to be considered just because they're a minority. They want to be considered because they earned it, and they deserve it. And if anyone is stupid enough to ignore a qualified candidate based on race, I say who wants to work for a racist bastard? I'm a firm believer that attitudes need to change, but I'm also a firm believer in advancement through merit. You hire the best, most qualified person. Race, gender, sexuality...none of that should matter.

Funny enough, I feel a lot of the same way about academic hiring, and I’m fairly certain we reside at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Split there coaching tenure into splits and compare the first half to the second.

Patterson dominated the mountain west. If you take out the Covid year, his first 4 years in the Big 12 were better than his last 4. The 5th and 7th place shouldn't be happening in the second half. In the first half it was the team adjusting to a harder confrence.

I can understand the thinking when it comes to Patterson; but, Shaw, no way. I kind of broke it down a bit in a response post to Bruin, if you want to check it out.

Patterson would be a grand slam imo.

It is interesting though that we aren't really hearing anything about any black candidates. There weren't really any black candidates discussed for South Carolina, Auburn, Texas, etc. either. Next season will likely be the first season in a long time in which there isn't a single black head coach in the SEC.
Name one that fits what UT is looking for, HC experience, proven winner and someone who isn't going to have to learn on the job

I’m just wondering (if this is what you are asking) what has he done as a head coach? Won at Florida Atlantic? I’ll admit he’s a good offensive mind but what has he done?

Read the rest of the sentence. What has he done . . . that has caused the NCAA to come down on him? I can't think of anything. I keep hearing this narrative that Kiffin is a shady guy with prior NCAA issues, but I don't know what facts support that narrative.

Brumbaugh with the last laugh. Probably justified based on rumors of how Pruitt treated him.
I do know that Brumbaugh didn't listen to Pruitt and kept trying to teach a step technique versus getting upfield like Pruitt wanted. He also severely underperformed at subbing players in the game. And none of the dlineman actually liked Brumbaugh. I also heard Pruitt was riding his butt non stop about not getting it done in recruiting either. If you recall, we missed on all the big time dlinemen in this class. Take it with a grain of salt, but that's what I've heard directly from a player.

I get the feeling more will leak today as agents and coaches start to get a sense of who we're targeting and who isn't getting calls.

As of about mid-day yesterday, Chadwell said he hadn't heard from anyone at UT. He could be lying, sure, but could also be a sign the search is in a better spot than him at this point.

Interestingly, I've heard that Danny White is flying into Knoxville, doing the presser and meeting key people, then is apparently hopping on a flight *somewhere*.

I'm expecting a Monday press conference for the new head coach.

Have more black coaches been hired since the Rooney Rule took effect? It seems so.

I've mentioned Eric bieniemy and Jim Caldwell as being my 2 favorites a few times. Do I count? I would not be surprised if it's one of them at all.

So you think the AD known for being innovative and creative is gonna target 66 year old Jim Caldwell?

I’d say the odds of him being hired are slim to none with a heavy emphasis on none.

Monday makes sense. I certainly don’t think it will come in the Friday afternoon news dump.

And who do you think it's going to be

Probably a sitting P5 coach that no one has mentioned. I just have a hard time believing that Plowman, Boyd and all the hire ups interviewed White and would be all good with Kiffin or Freeze. It’s a matter of optics and giving the program a clean slate. I honestly don’t understand why anyone would give this a second thought—I’m not interested in giving Lane Kiffin a redemption tour here. I don’t think White would be hired if Kiffin and Freeze were in his Rolodex.

As I said, I get it with Patterson; but, he usually bounces back after a couple of bad years. BTW, I dont want Patterson here. Maybe in the past, but not now.

Shaw...did you count this past season into his last 4 yrs?

It appears White has a history of getting good up and coming coaches. Most of the names I’m seeing shared here are fairly established coaches. but I’m honestly excited to see who he decides to go with since UT is more or a premiere program than his last few universities.
Would he go to Division 2 for a coach or just P5. I would like Lincoln Riley but think it’s a long shot.
Ha. We aren't getting Lincoln Riley but it's funny cause he only got that job because stoops forced them into Riley by waiting to retire so late in the off-season that they didn't have much choice but to let Riley have a shot.

The internet is just a fad. If we ignore it, it will go away.
That's not what he's saying, I don't think.

The point being that you don't make anything better by acknowledging rumors, you only make things worse.

Just ignore them, make a good hire, and move on.

Your choices are "the silence is deafening, it must be Gruden" or "it's a smokescreen, they just don't want you to know it's Gruden until they come out at halftime of the Superbowl with Gruden in an orange fedora and singing rocky top with Justin Timberlake".

I definitely don’t want Caldwell.... he is 66 plus hardly an exciting candidate...... Bienemy is more intriguing although he has a slightly checkered past and he doesn’t call the plays at his current job..... is he worth that risk?
