Yes, but remember when Lane was here we were also just a couple of years removed from an SECCG appearance. Kirby won 8 games his first year at Georgia and they were just a couple years removed from a double-digit win season and top 10 finish. Neither school was far removed from a period of success at that time.I think recruiting, like any sales job, is more feeling than anything substantial.
Lane Kiffin had done nothing here and landed Bryce Brown among others. Kirby Smart won 6 games at Georgia his first year but landed the #1 class in the country off of it. It's all salesmanship.
Quite honestly, I think our coaches have done a hell of a sales job over the last few years to sign the classes we have. Our program has absolutely nothing to point to in terms of recent on-field success, recent player development, or recent relevancy of any kind. I don't know why any highly-touted prospect, especially guys at positions like QB or WR, would want to come here right now.
Tennessee's brand is very heavily damaged. Not damaged beyond repair, but heavily damaged.
