Kind of my point. I think we've went too far down the road at this point for any type of positive outcome. It's minimize the damage time. That's why I think appointing an interim and wait a year gives you several advantages. Disadvantages as well but gives you time work on a quality replacement instead just grabbing whatever you can grab.

Yep, it's stop the bleeding time. If the decision had been reached to fire him, the solution would have been to fire him cleanly, pay the buyout and get a prime position in the coaching sweepstakes. Then handle the investigation separately and swiftly.

Outside counsel will make a recommendation based on final findings and probable outcomes. Pruitt's response and how far down the list they'll have to go will be factors. The only sure thing is UT has whacked a hornet's nest and now has to deal with the swarm.

Poster on VQ who is connected in the coaching world

Is Memphis Mitch indicating Pruitt will definitely be terminated? I think if somehow Coach Pruitt survives this investigation, the odds are he would definitely be let go after the 2021 season... I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt the 2021 season will be successful, as in at least an 8-4 record for next year.. I think at best UT will finish 6-6, unfortunately.

From Memphis Mitch:

Soooo, I just talked to some people inside the program.... man. All I’ll say is we better hope Pruitt is fired. That place is a **** show right now, & has been for a while according to these people. Definitely reaffirmed my opinion that it’s time to start fresh and new regardless if anything is found or not. Everyone says good things about Pruitt as far as players liking him..... I’m hearing differently talking with a few guys

Hahahahahhahahahaha I just off the phone with my guy. If you guys would’ve just heard this conversation. Wowwwwwwwwwwwwww. This staff needs to go. Bad bad things happening. All I’ll say is one former big time guy definitely transferring as of now. This staff was 10x worse than Butch’s staff when it came to being prepared. And we are definitely in trouble with NCAA. I see No way JP is the coach Next year. No way. So I guess that’s the positive haha.
I’ve been trying to say he is not as liked by players as many believe. The meltdown that is coming when one player is announced will be epic. Not even idiot Tennessee Studs could defend.

Saban has absolute power and control over every inch of his program-- and a little bit beyond. Other schools, including UT, share authority up the chain, with the AD, Chancellor and President included in some aspects of decisionmaking.

IDK exactly what Napier would demand and what he would be willing to concede for a job he really wanted. But he's not Saban and he hasn't yet earned the right to demand absolute power and control. And he won't get it from many schools.

If our main rivals aren’t playing by these same rules and it has been limiting our pool of candidates, then the program needs to identify a candidate they feel comfortable enough to overhaul that whole set up for and go all in.

I’ve met Memphis Mitch a few times around high school playoffs. He is a great dude and always has been spot on with me. I take lots of stock in what he says

I may be mistaken but doesn't he post every once in a while on here? Maybe he ought to come on in and defend himself against this dude. From the accounts MM is not a BSer

I think we’ll be fine. Florida and Dan Mullen were just hit with a show-cause for “lack of institutional control.” We’ve always been told that term is a death knell, but they’re keeping him because he’s a good coach.

The fact we are going to fire our coach should mitigate the infractions on the University.

And here’s an unpopular opinion I don’t think many are going to agree with me about: we’re going to hire a second tier coach. I have my eyes on Chadwell, but it could be Bill Clark, Lance Leipold, anyone really. I would argue a self-imposed bowl ban would actually help the new coach because that expectation would be waived for said new coach who might be in over their head in Year 1.
That may be the case.

It also would surprise me to see scholarship reductions, bowl ban and probation either. History has shown the AA is not that cut a dry.

The issue going forward is not whether a sentence like that is going to hurt the guy currently coaching but the guy you re trying to hire behind him. The reality may end up being that guy starts deeper in the whole than the last 3 with a fanbase that longer has patience.

I dont know that its all that unpopular. There's no reason for fans to expect UT to hire off the top shelf. The investigation and what may come from that isn't going to help. Even if it results in UT keeping the buyout.

I would be very fine with Clark, Leopoldo, or Chadwell. All have won where they coached at.

Leipold is intriguing. Just started researching him. Guy is a winner.

I’m starting to think this whole $6¡7 show has more to do with squeezing Pruitt out over Fulmer’s objections than saving a buyout.

One rival: Bama. One coach: Saban. Checks and balances aren't a bad thing.

Ugh...we know who this is. Please just hammer us with the death penalty, burn Neyland down, and bury the program. Then we can all stop following this catastrophe known as Tennessee football.

... after the internal investigation is completed - not before or during.

My understanding is that they are not only in charge of laying out policies and procedures for compliance but also monitoring for violations.

I’m starting to warm up to the idea of Chadwell being our next HC. I understand the concerns on whether his offense would work but he’s an innovative coach so it wouldn’t surprise me if he tweaked the offense and it’s not like they can’t throw it. McCall had 2400 yards and 26TD’s with a receiver that nearly had 1000yds and 10TD’s also had a 600yd receiver. I think the big question is how well can he recruit.

We need to avoid an experiment this go around if we can help it.

Unfortunately, we don't have a Ryan Day, Lincoln Riley or Dabo Swinney waiting in the wings. Even if UT were in a good place, we don't have anyone ready to step into the job.

I don’t hate the idea of bringing someone like Jim Grobe in for a year to give us time to hire someone better than this current bunch.
