Doing some research on Marrone, his recruiting was pretty average at Syracuse. It's tough to get a real calculation because the year after he left Syracuse jumped from the Big East to the ACC.
These class rankings are what they would have equated to in the ACC that year (per 247.) None of these classes were higher than 6th in the Big East at the time.
2009: 14th
2010: 11th
2011: 10th
2012: 11th
2013: 13th
He was the coach there from 2009-2012, so the 2009 and 2013 class are not totally his, but I thought I would include them for more information and data.
What these numbers tell me, which isn't surprising given he has such a positive reputation in the NFL, is that he's a pure coach and develops the talent he has available to him.
Again, these are Big East numbers, but given the talent he had above, he finished:
7th in the Big East in 2009: 4-8
4th in the Big East in 2010: 8-5
7th in the Big East in 2011: 5-7
1st in the Big East in 2012: 8-5
Two 8 win seasons in four years, Syracuse hadn't reached 8 wins since 2001 before Marrone.
