Why do you feel like Chadwell is a safe hire? I wouldn’t mind him either, but I honestly would rather have Mahlzan if it isn’t Freeze, Herman, or Napier
The most unsafe hire of the names being seriously discussed. He could turn out to be HR but more likely turns out to be a 3 pitch swinging strikeout on 3 pitches out of the strike zone.

I don’t get why you’re all out on an NFL guy. You don’t get those gigs without being highly respected as a coach. You also don’t see much success in NFL gigs without a capable QB. 49ers struggled this year even with a QB whisperer and offensive guru in Shanahan. Marrone also has plenty of experience in the college game and as a Vol, so none of it would be much a surprise to him.

Most importantly Marrone would bring a no nonsense, blue collar professionalism to UT that we simply haven’t had since Fulmer.

Would it be a home run hire that everyone gets pumped up about? No, but it would be a solid hire and maybe just what we need. Like Bill O’Brien and Penn State.

I’m hoping for something exciting, but I could take an exhale if we stumble out of this with Marrone and an NFL and VFL staff.
He is a boring loser...change my mind. The NFL has dozens of jagoffs for coaches at different levels...I am not impressed by that at all.

They have successfully lowered your expectations from "get us a great coach" to "we could do worse"..

And that is unmitigated bull💩 IMO.

This may have already been brought up and my apologies if so (I missed a full day and don't want to wade through 50+ pages to see), but why do we think Marrone would be interested in returning to college? He's only worked a total of 4 years at this level since he left here 18 years ago, outside of that everything has been in the pros. Would he be able to recruit/want to recruit? I know he's friends with Phil but are there any other ties outside of the one year he worked here?

Sorry for having a lot of questions just trying to wrap my head around why we'd go for him (or he'd want to come here for that matter).

There were literally people in here and on the National stage boosting up the 8 game run he went on. I’m not saying I think he should have got an extension but he did based off of that and the respect he had earned nationally at the time. Either way, ain’t my money and I’ll keep supporting the VOLS no matter how bad it tastes.
The extension is easy to criticize in hindsight but this time last year Pruitt was being praised for the epic turnaround and his name had been floated as a SEC CoTY candidate. And had Ed O and Burrow not the lit the world on fire he might’ve even won that accolade. We live in an extend or fire world, especially when it comes to recruiting and while I don’t like it I see it as the price of doing business.

That said, we aren’t stuck in this mess because of the extension. It was generous but not overly so the way we have seen at other places (e.g. Auburn and South Carolina among others) and it’s important that UT is seen as a program willing to spend money on coaches and their staffs. The simple truth of things has always been that if the powers that be wanted to move and make a huge hire then that’s exactly what we’d be doing right now. The extension is irrelevant to that. If we’re not moving it’s not due to Fulmer or an extension but rather due to the fact that our power players are perfectly fine with Pruitt and haven’t seen an option that they are willing to shell out for.

Why would they let players know Pruitt is back without releasing a statement?

You think Phil just really loves the excitement of every fan and media member openly questioning whether Pruitt is back? Phil is just loving all the attention and never wants it to end? Doubt it.

There is no such thing as a statute of limitations or time served in the court of social justice.
SJWs fascinate me. For whatever reason, commit a social faux pas and they believe you should be impugned for life. But commit a hard crime that sends you to actual prison and they're all about forgiveness and rehabilitation. Not sure I understand how they decide who does or does not deserve a second chance.
