I suppose he could. I just don’t trust that AD down there after announcing Herman was coming back after it didn’t work out with Urban...and then to settle in Sark? Saban had an opportunity to go to TX and declined bc he didn’t want “20 lost cattleman telling him how to run his program”.

It's not completely far-fetched, though. Texas' recruiting advantages are vastly overrated. LSU, Georgia, Florida, Miami, and USC all have bigger recruiting advantages than Texas IMO. And A&M being in the SEC probably puts them above Texas, as well. Still a bigger recruiting advantage than Tennessee, but it's a closer contest than people realize.

When you factor in the 5 hour radius, I feel like Tennessee’s classes should reflect what’s going on at Clemson. It just takes the right people to get the program moving in that direction again.

Not sure what you are talking about. He was 7-3 this year with all his losses a combined 13pts and against ranked teams.. he has consistently fielded teams that have competed with and beat elite teams every year he has coached. When is the last time we have done that? He beat a CFP bond Oklahoma team with Baker Mayfield. That is not hacking it?Jeremy Pruitt getting trounced by UK in Neyland and losing to Arkansas's first year HC in year 3 are examples of "not hacking it". A HC who has won 71% of his games, beat no.3 Oklahoma, no. 6 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, no. 6 Oklahoma state team, no.11 Utah, and Florids state among many other good teams is not an example of a bad football coach.

How many times over the past 12yrs have we had a HC who could even consistently field a team that would even be competitive with anyone with a pulse, much less give you any hope of having a real chance to beat a top 10 team like Oklahoma or Georgia without some miracle game? We haven't had a top 10 win in like 10yrs right? Maybe 1. This guy has 6-7x's more in his 6yrs as a HC but he is a hack? Let's get realistic.

Rick Barnes couldn't hack it there either apparently BTW.

Please tell us, who is the next Nick Saban/Urban Meyer you have in mind?

I’m just giving him a hard time because you think if you’re Texas you fall out of bed and fill your 25 spots. I’ve given Texas a harder time than most on here because I don’t really think they deserve all the attention they get, and they do less with more than anyone in the country. If it weren’t for a freak Vince Young win they wouldn’t have any relevant titles to speak of .

He's also had all that Texas talent and still can't win a much weaker conference. There's no way in my mind he's an improvement.

Wait till he tried recruiting here.

I don’t see where he couldn’t hack the Big 12. His record was solid even if he didn’t win the conference title. He was 5-0 in bowl games so he should receive credit there. A definite upgrade over Pruitt.

I’ve been saying there as been issues inside the administration or “dysfunction” as Chris Low says. I really believe the way this school has been ran the last 10-12 years and the issues that’s has came with it, is time to make changes all across the board. Idk if it’s big money people in the way or egos within the administration but something is not right and has not been for a long time. Shoot I’m only 31 and there are some of you all been following the program before I was even thought of and has to have that same feeling lol. I hope we can get it right this time with whatever direction they decide to go but let’s say we do let go of Pruitt. Who would be the right fit to not only bring success but also bring loyalty and pride back to the University of Tennessee? What coach could deal with the likes of Tn big headed people?

Not trying to be rude here @OldVol, but did you read anything @Birdie wrote? I mean it was a pretty compelling argument that cited facts and you come back with a 3 sentence opinion? A weak opinion at that.

I think the investigation that started with one instance of impermissible contacts and benefits involving one staff member has started to uncover other instances of that staff member at best living in the gray area, at worst being a blatant rule-breaker.

Will Pruitt ultimately fall because of the actions of one of his staff members? I still don't believe so, but we're starting to get into the territory of how good does next season have to be to keep him and that is becoming an ever steeper hill to climb.

Just maybe the ESPN reporter talked to people influential at UT to get to that conclusion. I have never said or expressed that I was extremely wealthy, with that said I don’t know any broke MIT grads.

I think hiring Herman would be a good thing. Even if he can't win the conference, I feel he could win 7-9 games a year and consistently compete with Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. He has already beaten Georgia while at Texas.

If he does nothing else but stabilize the program for a few years and make UT a desirable job again, it would be worth what UT pays to get him here.

With everything negative swirling around the program right now, I don't think we will have a very deep pool to hire from.

I mean, I’m no MIT grad, but “the ESPN reporter”, did say that he had spoken with some people. I could only assume it was someone influential at UT. Am I missing something here? Are you claiming to be one of the “influential” people (everyone knows that answer btw 🤥)
