Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems to me if an internal investigation results in firing CJP with cause, it would be tough to go out and hire Freeze without raising some NCAA eyebrows. Just a thought.

Agree....the optics would be horrible of firing a HC for infractions in order to bring in someone who was fired because he took cheating to a new level. Freeze seems to be a very good HC and quite possibly the most competent candidate that would take the job however don't see how the university could justify the hire.

If we get probation, it would be the perfect time to go ahead and hire Hugh Freeze ... I mean, what are they gonna do? As long as everyone keeps there nose clean so to speak, we serve our time, and have our coach. (I know it's not gonna happen, but a man can dream, can't he?)

dreaming is allowed.....like that great line from Married with Children....Peg asked why Al why he closes his eyes when they made love; he responded "Peg! It's like when I'm driving my Volare...I close my eyes and dream I'm driving a Lamoborghini". So close your eyes and dream my friend.

I would bet that all the folks on the power team have a pretty good idea how Freeze would be accepted by the fanbase overall. I think it would thrill a minority, enrage another minority, and create massive indifference by a large plurality. You will never hear from the large group, especially in response season ticket requests and donation requests. I doubt they project his more vocal supporters can make up the difference. Many of those for sure are willing to spend someone else's money, but doubt very many are on the higher donor lists even for season tickets.

Trying to actually calibrate his support. Does anyone know how many folks have posted on this very board over the last year? I have seen that less than 1500 have voted in the poll. How many have simply walked away from the subject rather than get confrontational. Numbers anyone?

NCAA issues. Its Fulmer!

Why?

Lets go back to 2004 and the recruitment of Michael Oher. Oher was a big target for Fulmer and Tennessee. Back then, Fulmer pulled anyone he wanted out of Tennessee.

Freeze was the HC at Briarcrest, where Oher played. Regardless of what you saw in the movie, The Blind Side, Oher was already an established football player that didnt need to be taught by Leigh Anne Touhy how to block.

Now, it is understood that Freeze has always wanted to coach at Tennessee.

Now the nexr is pure speculation on my part. Lets say Freeze approaches Fulmer with the option of " I get hired, you get Oher"? Fulmer refuses because he knows it could be a possible recruiting violation

Enter the Touhy's. They are both boosters for Ole Miss and they hate Tennessee. They are also Oher's adoptive parents. Oher ends up at Ole Miss and Freeze ends up getting hired at Ole Miss. Hence, my speculation in the paragraph above

If that were the case, then there is no way Fulmer would hire him

IMO, Fulmer would have to go as well for Freeze to be hired at UT

Yo, this is a far reach. Just felt like you needed to hear this.

Even if that was true, and it’s definitely a stretch, why would anyone hold a grudge for 16+ years over the decision of an 18 year old? That’s petty and childish if there’s any thread of truth to it.

The Tuohys do not hate Tennessee, they are just big Ole Miss supporters. If Fulmer has any issues with this over 15 years later, he needs to get over it. Peyton Manning had the alpha personality to tell his parents he wanted to go to UT over Ole Miss; Michael Oher didn't. Eventually, the other coaches in the league realized this but Fulmer thought he could sway Oher like he did Peyton.

Yeah, Freeze took a gig with Ole Miss afterwards but that was as much to get Greg Hardy down there as it was as a reward for Oher and Coach O wanted him there to "build a fence around Memphis."

So, you feel the decision of a single player who chose Ole Miss over 15 years ago in a movie Fulmer himself appeared in is still a grudge? OK, I can see that. If your right Fulmer leaving = Freeze being hired? My scrawny azz is on board.

This gets a little fuzzy in the middle, obviously, but it's no secret that Fulmer isn't a fan of Freeze and that Freeze won't be coming to Knoxville as long as Phil is in charge.

So, ultimately, the last sentence of the original post is definitely accurate.

Fulmer won't be making the next hire, really believe Pruitt and Fulmer are both let go by the 2nd signing day or shortly after. As far as Fulmer I guarantee he didn't care about recruiting Violations. Fulmer was as dirty as anybody, and yes that is firsthand knowledge from numerous former players. Like Saban has his protection thanks to his boy working for the NCAA..Fulmer had Roy Kramer protecting him back then.

Regardless of it all, I highly doubt Fulmer will be making the next Football hire.

One other point, once the Tuohys officially adopted Oher, I think the "writing was on the wall" for him to go to Ole Miss. The adoption was partially to avoid NCAA scrutiny for improper benefits. (Personal story, in the mid-to-late 90s, my wife lived her final year and a half in high school with a teacher and the teacher's husband, who happened to be a TCU booster. Wife had D1 basketball offers and the NCAA was giving her hell on eligibility.)

Please just move on from Freeze. He has already committed a sin that disqualifies him of those "Tennessee Values". Trust me, it's too much for a certain portion of the fanbase to handle.

Or you can say, please move on from Pruitt. This year, he committed a sin 7x that most of the fanbase can't handle: getting blown out by double digits...

Oh trust me. I agree with you there. I'm just pointing out the obvious about Freeze. Too many fans and I'm certain people behind the scenes would protest the hire.

That’s what I’m saying. With the current situation....he’s the most proven HC candidate available. He’s got a strong SEC recruiting ties and the type of hire to keep our top players from further jumping ship. If Freeze is not an option....I’d go Malzahn then Herman.
