extending him after year 2 with NO MITIGATION was the WTF moment. Ya wanna bump his salary, or give him more pool for hiring assistants by all means restructure, but why remove mitigation?

The only justification for a no mitigation is when ya got a championship winning coach that you want to give him assurance he's safe until he decides he wants to retire or leave (Saban, Dabo, Day, etc.) not a 13-12 first time HC that's entering year 3 with huge turnover in his staff.

Didn't Butch prove that to us already that top 10 classes aren't the end all at UT for results? 2014-7th, 2015-4th and in 2017 we went 4-8...

@MoCo_Vol , In regards to the NO Mitigation clause, I believe @LA Vol mentioned that it was in the original contract and would've been standard language for ANY HC we hired due to the lack of leverage in the UT AD. I don't believe it's something new that CPF recently added. Which makes sense if you think about the state of our program over the past decade.

The AD believes that Pruitt will turn things around given time.
Chaney will have say in who the new OL coach is, and he expects Chaney to have more input in the offensive philosophy next year.
Pruitt will not be fired for football reasons. The only way he does not return is if something damning comes from the investigation.

This has been the reality since the first of December. Everything else has been wishful thinking and conjecture.

Thanks for the info @ugg, if this is the play, then we better prepare for 2 years of CJP, or hope that he's able to hire his successor in this round of interviews (as part of his coaching staff), because no coach is coming here on a 1 year deal.

I don’t take anything Doug says for fact

again, i'm not arguing for or against it.

if he won this past season, no one would care, or likely even know he had a no mitigation clause in his contract.

or maybe you're the one that would care? you're certainly entitled to. either way. it wouldn't be a big deal to most.

If a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his ass on the ground when he hopped too.

But he didn't win, he does have a no mitigation clause and because he should be fired everyone does care about that stupid contract extension now.
