I mean who knows? You see, to me, it feels like Gus is ready for a job but maxed out. We know what he is. Offense is stale, would provide stability but not much excitement. To me that's a safe hire that restores respectability but no long term hope. With Napier, this is a guy winning at a lower level who has been offered by other top jobs (AU) and has been doing it for a while. He's an offensive guy also. He would bring more hope and excitement with possibly a higher ceiling but also a lower floor. Depends on what you want.
Campbell 100%. But as you said, he isn't coming here. So Napier has won 10 games two years in a row at Louisiana. They have never won 10 games, ever. He has beaten a proven top coach in Campbell and badly. He beat them 31-14. He's clearly an up and comer and seems to be a good coach. I think that's the floor of our coaching search and it's a dang good floor. It is eye-opening, but would you honestly rather have Napier or Campbell? (I know Campbell is not coming here).
I would take Campbell all day, every day.
True. He hasn't played them. Played MSU last year and lost by one score. That's the only SEC team he has faced. I agree though that I don't believe that Herman is maxed out. I think he can still grow and become a great coach. That's jmoHas Napier beaten Georgia or Oklahoma? Hell Herman beat OU while he was at Houston
The hire should be made off of that list. Except substitute O'Brien for number 9.1. Campbell
2. Fickell
2. Napier
4. Freeze
5. Marrone
5. Herman
7. Chadwell
8. Pruitt
9. No head coach and we call plays by Twitter poll.
10. Gus
The only comprehensive head coaching list anyone needs. Someone get this in the hands of Fulmer and we can start at 1.
Would rather have Napier than Gus. Also, why not consider Napier when, as I said, he went up to Iowa State and beat Campbell this year? He's also a TN guy and most likely would come here.
There are jobs that interest Napier, particularly in the SEC, but if those programs are not willing to listen and give him what he wants — a staff that rivals Alabama and the freedom to run his program his way without much interference — the coach is more than happy to win championships with the Ragin’ Cajuns in the Sun Belt.
Napier isn’t one to act quickly. If a program wants him, they must be patient, supportive and, more importantly, willing to provide the infrastructure he requires to run his type of program.
South Carolina didn’t have all of the pieces or the environment for that type of growth. Neither did Auburn.
So, Napier moved on without regret by staying put in Lafayette, issuing statements each time the rumors grew to a roar in December.
He loves coaching and wants to be in the SEC some day, but only if he can do it his way (the right way). He will stay still as long as he must (as long as he’s successful) in the Sun Belt. He knows his process works.
I like your top 4 for sure. I'd go Herman, Gus and Marrone at 5, 6, 7 though.1. Campbell

sounds to me like he's a guy who knows what he is doing, if Fulmer and everyone else would stay out of his way.Not sure Phillip Fulmer would be the best AD for Napier judging on his comments below.
Why Billy Napier keeps passing up Power 5 jobs

Maybe Napier wants to replace Saban someday? Just a thought. Not sure Phillip Fulmer would be the best AD for Napier judging on his comments below.

You may be speaking the absolute truth, I have no way to know, but here is what came to mind when I read your post.View attachment 336616
O’Brien would be better than Marrone
O’Brien could walk into a QB recruits house and say he was partially responsible for the development of Deshaun Watson (which he was) plus he spent multiple years coaching Tom Brady. What’s Marrone gonna sell? Blake Bortles?
Patient and supportive....... that is so us lolNot sure Phillip Fulmer would be the best AD for Napier judging on his comments below.
