Does the possibility of Steele and Garner cause you to rethink firing Pruitt?

Depends on who the OL/QB coaches are...

Steele would be a huge upgrade at DC and be a great one for Ansley to learn under/with. And Garner at DL is probably better than most candidate names being thrown around.

I'm assuming Steele would be Co-DC and ILB coach or something?

This is 100% Pruitt's defense. He isn't hiring someone with their own ideas. Ansley is the best we'll ever have because they are on the same page on defensive scheme and calls. DC doesn't matter much here, it's Pruitt's calls at the end of the day.

Also seems weird to have a defensive Xs and Os guy...who is awful at big picture stuff...and bring in an independent DC. At that point, why is Pruitt even here?

Nor are great coaches coming to a lame duck stint. That's a pipedream imo unless we over pay by nearly double.

Not really. I don't think he gets fired this year, but I think he deserves to be fired after such a miserable, unpromising year. I saw zero progress. In fact, we saw a degree of regress. And I don't think COVID is a viable excuse for that regression. Not to mention, there were some notable recruiting failures IMO. Not talking about individuals they missed on, that happens, but rather notable positions of need that went unaddressed. There was massive failure by this staff in year 3 that should not be acceptable. But we're UT, so of course our admin will accept it. I don't think next year will be much better, and I'm not sure it matters who Pruitt hires.

You would be completely wrong in this particular case in regards to being a good team mate.

Go look up Travis Stephens career numbers at UT and compare them to Ty. Keeping in mind Travis played behind some really good OLs with steady QB play that had to be accounted for, while Ty played with pretty much the opposite. And Stephens was considered a good back here.

Its easy to blow off guys that havent played on teams that have been successful.

That last line has applied to the Vols often. Big reason why we have a few VFL starters in the NFL that weren’t drafted.

I think Steele would be happy to come to UT, if he was able to push Gus out and get serious consideration at Auburn for a HC job...why wouldn't he be willing to try it here? Connection with Fulmer, already got an interview once, and Pruitt is more likely than Gus to fail and get fired so it wouldn't even require any backstabbing.

I'd rather have Bo Davis than Garner.

Ansley is probably the safest coach on our staff if Pruitt is retained. Zero chance Kevin Steele comes here. No idea on Garner, but he will most likely follow Kevin Steele.
