I think the players would have been fine if he had been fired for performance but feel their coach is being attacked by some in the university. That's different.

If that’s the case then they need to be told the truth. It’s not the university it’s the coaches who are suppose to coach them on the field and be a life coach. Your not suppose to stab people in the back just to get a leg up in life. Unless your a politician.

I’m not worried about pruitts reputation..... I am worried about our teams reputation.... if you see all these schools defend their players.... fight to keep players eligible..... fight to keep the NCAA away..... why would you choose Tennessee.... you already have an uphill battle with instate recruiting.... depleted roster more than likely if this goes down..... a university and city that doesn’t have your back...... Doug Dickey would not allow this stuff to be going on.
We had a different breed of donor then too. The ones we have now have been jockeying for position around the power vacuum he left. What they’ve managaed to accumulate is to serve themselves and every damn one of them is afraid of investing that power back into a functional AD where it belongs.

I agree..... I like his potential but my goodness people act like he is the second coming..... I’m thinking spurrier on steriods wouldn’t have had a 5 win season in year 2 at FAU.

Most of the ones saying this probably aren't old enough to actually have watched Spurrier at Florida. His worse season was 9 wins, and it only happened three times while there. The dude won 81.7% of his games at Florida, Kiffin will never, ever be as good as Spurrier was. Even Urban Myer couldn't do it.

Could be, but we have developed a bad name in coaching circles. From the administration to the fan base on Twitter, lots of coaches see this job as dysfunctional and not worth the headache. It is going to be harder and harder for UT to hire proven coaches.
An argument that our fan base on Twitter is a deterrent is absolutely deflective BS. Don’t blame **** on the fans, change **** so the fans are happy... they are the customers here and it is an entertainment based business, like it or not... you’re hearing from the fans because you are providing shut entertainment! Change it or go out of business.

This is why I have Herman, Gus, & Freeze as the top 3. All 3 have held those big time jobs with the huge spotlight and succeeded while doing it.
These are the logical hires ^^^. They can handle the heat and the crap fest that is the UT football program right now. Pruitt should be fired and one of those 3 guys hired, one day this week. Preferably, in the same afternoon.

What do people think of Raheem Morris? Not that he would even be an option here as he likely is an NFL lifer. Just think he did some good things as interim with Falcons and I liked him from his previous time with Bucs and felt he was just too young at time. I felt his move to Offense and WR coach and success there to go along with his defensive background helped him grow and I think it shows in how he handled that Falcons group to end year. He now has been under several good offensive and defensive minds. I think he would be outstanding in college game. Just my opinion

Don’t forget the UT job the last 15 years has been a great place for a HC to come work for 3-5 years making 3+ million/year and then get paid $10-15mil more to leave. I think the truth is the UT HC job is a dream come true and coaches are probably lining up for that payday.
I think if thats the reason they are lining up for the job then we will be doing the same thing in 3 years. Whats the point if thats the mindset?

Don’t get humiliated by Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Georgia state, and go 3-7 in year 3 and you’ll never have an issue with that.
well, if we did those things, we wouldn't be going thru any of this at all.

point being it's the sum of the parts. AP isn't saying it's all fans/social media. he's saying it's not helping because that's all players/coaches/recruits can actually see, so that's the perception they get.

some will sift thru the BS and call it for what it is. others won't. but at the end of the day if you're putting your career as a coach or your career as a player on the line, are you choosing the current perception of TN or program b,c,d,e on your list?

it's not an all or nothing proposition regarding fans and their level of blame for the current situation. it's not the fans' fault. fans didn't put up the results.

it is fans' fault when they take to social media and start trashing all things UT, and start tweeting coaches/players/recruits/parents. be mad, fine. but good grief. some of the stuff that's going on out there is actually ridiculous. there are folks out there actually suggesting Salter should go someplace else, "cause, UT"..........it's just dumb.

and you also have to consider that there are other programs posting crap posing as UT fans to perpetuate this perception.....that happens and is happening.

I think UT has left themselves no choice and they will be forced to fire Jeremy Pruitt. It's pretty toxic right now.

Now, that doesn't mean we're suddenly uber-competent and will handle the hire correctly. Is Fulmer going to make the hire? How pissed is he to have to move on from Pruitt?

My guess? Gus will be our #1 target. He is available with no buyout. It's going to take a lot to get him.

If that falls through, my guess is we're looking at Marrone, Napier and Chadwell. The longer it drags out, the less inclined Napier and Marrone will be to take over late in the process.

I think we end up at Chadwell - or maybe some mystery candidates we're not thinking of right now.

Still having a hard time warming up to Gus. He has the same stubborn attitude that's got Pruitt in a mess. I've read his book on the Spread/No-Huddle. It was groundbreaking and innovative in its day. It's not anymore and he hasn't adapted as much with the times as he needs to. IF he is hired I hope he succeeds and I am proven wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Our fans are nothing different than auburn, FL, texas etc. they are just as toxic and great at the same time. Their admins just choose to find ways to fire poor coaches. Ours find ways to extend them.

No one would care about the other stuff if that didn’t happen. If we were 7-3 right now... we would be mad at the university for even investigating.

True. I just don’t like the way people are handling this behind the scene. Just pay for your mistake and not put university in jeopardy. I recall people here claiming oh don’t worry guys it’s ok it won’t be serious and suddenly they change tune that more was found. They always find something when you let them in the door. This is why you don’t invite them to investigate because you don’t like someone. Better to pay for the mistake to go away than to try and get by without paying.

We just need someone to put the fire out and that can handle the pressure of being our head coach. Gus put up with a ton of crap, some of it he deserved, at Auburn. IMO, he's behind Freeze but ahead of Herman and only because of his SEC experience.
