At this point the Pruitt stock looks worse every day. The cause of the drop is no longer about bad football but about Tennessee's unwillingness to provide clarity on Pruitt moving forward.
Feels like there are 2 scenarios that are possible.
1. They are in complete denial of how down on Pruitt the fanbase truly is. They think we're shortsighted, emotional and reactionary. They choose to withhold their acknowledgement of us as they sit in their pointy castle and watch us suffer down below. What they may not be realizing is, their silence is actually hurting their coach too. All of us now burning. They warm their hands near the flames. We will keep our coach no matter what. Because you should remember who is in charge. No explanation deserved or required.
I hate number 1.
2. They do care. But they are actually the ones in the dark. Perhaps they are waiting on information to be revealed in the investigation which will provide clarity to help them properly evaluate Pruitt. I'm thinking they've been planning to keep him and Fulmer tried to hint at that in his spring practice comment. But that was far from a clear endorsement.
Maybe they're concerned about backing him publicly not knowing if something damning could come out of the investigation. Pruitts on field performance and sour relationships around Tennessee may not have inspired blind loyalty. And as time has gone on, the more it feels like the negativity around Pruitt continues to rise. Hires have to be made. Now I wonder if it's starting to occur to them that the best way to right the ship might really be to go ahead and fire him and start fresh. To me the longer they don't speak up for Pruitt the worse it looks. Surely somebody around that place knows this.
Which makes me think a change may be coming. Maybe this wasn't the initial plan. Maybe the time with family at home over the holidays reflecting on the good times has sparked some ideas in the imagination of these people. Surely they desire to be great. Or at least be good. They could have an opportunity that's fallen in their laps to take another swing at it. The magic with Pruitt really has kinda worn off. But this program is so much more than just Pruitt, or even Fulmer
The thing is.... If this is not true. And they're bringing him back no matter what, why not announce it publicly? Why not be clear? We've said this for weeks now but it's more pressing with each passing day. They could embrace him and downplay his failures and assure us Tennessee football is right on track and will be on top again soon. But they haven't. Makes you wonder.
Time will tell I suppose.
Like sand through the hour glass, so are the days of our Vols.
