The freshman didn’t get to practice due to no off season.

I get that early in the season. At a certain point in the year they have practiced quite a bit. They practice every day and should have been ready by midseason. If they aren't getting reps that's on the coaches. Plan better. You are getting paid to figure this stuff out. Be a problem solver. Build for the future... this is coaching 101.

We lost by double digit's how many times? Would have been a great time for them to learn. What did we have to lose? Especially with JG.
I agree.... they should have worked more aggressively to get JG out of here..... they did start Sunday night scrimmages that is not done during the regular season to try and get younger players to the point that the staff felt comfortable in playing them.

Price tag goes up next year.
I agree but there are 2 main differences. 1) Butch will be off the pay roll and TN can save what they had been paying him. 2) Hopefully, businesses recover and boosters maybe more willing to contribute next year.
FWIW, anyways I don't think they fire him next year regardless if the decision made this year is to bring him back.

It’s nice to say and hope for but it’s not going to happen. Pruitt isn’t going to change who he is all of a sudden in year 4 at UT. He is who he is and that’s that. Move on now or accept that we’ll be bad until he’s gone. That’s just reality.
I couldn't agree more. Trotting Pruitt out there as our coach is just like trotting JG out onto the field and hoping he is going to suddenly be good. Pruitt is who he is just as JG is who he is.

I keep trying to positive again but when I start thinking about this past season too much it gets me pretty down about the future with this guy in charge.

This year was a failure, no question about it. I believe this program needed a complete overhaul before Pruitt took over. It was always going to take four or five years to really get this thing turned. That’s the vision Pruitt sold Fulmer on before he was hired, and that’s the vision now. Let him get three or four classes of guys that he’s recruited and developed, and then let’s see where we’re at. I happen to think this next year, with good QB play, will look a lot different. We have some dudes in his freshman and sophomore classes. Let’s see how it plays out.

He hasn't recruited anyone that can rush the passer. His DBs are not good. Even if he has recruited good players like HB they either haven't seen the field, or have been developed.

So then the questions is, why is that a problem for us and not Auburn, Texas, SC and others that are paying as much or more in buyouts?
Just sounds like another excuse from a dis functional run program from top to bottom
SC and Auburn weren't going after their potentially 4th coach in the current decade. They also haven't had to pay buyout after payout and still actually have money in their reserves. TX its because their boosters stepped up and were willing to cut the check. TN has neither right now.

He has recruited pass rushers. One just rarely gets playing time and they’re all young. Agree about the DBs though.

During the week is whatever the head coach decides it is.
It was stated several times that hadn’t had enough practice time for the starters so I’m sure they were focused on trying to hang on and win a game bc our fans super understanding when we lose games.

To be honest I feel there was more chance of JG suddenly getting better (at the beginning of the year at least) than there is that Pruitt will suddenly have a good year next year. At least there was some precedence for a senior having a great last year than a coach, that has been as bad as Pruitt the first three years, finally having a good season.

I don't think they fire him next year either. He'll go 6-6 and they'll tout him as a young Neyland for bringing the Vols back from the cusp of eternal damnation. Probably extend him to 2050 with a double his salary buyout. Go up on tickets, minimum donation, popcorn, reduce the seats to 12" wide, and fire Barnes to generate more revenue for football.

Appreciate that. As the old saying goes, perception is reality. As of now, the perception is that’s Theres an issue from the top down.
Fulmer is Pruitts boss. If he’s as involved in film and game prep, and practices as rumored, why didn’t he meddle in Pruitts decision to keep trotting JG out there? Why weren’t our younger, better athletes getting more meaningful reps? Many here would never question Fulmers dedication to UT, but most would question whether he’s qualified to be a successful AD? I truly think pride is most likely blurring the long term vision of both Fulmer and Pruitt.
I'm afraid they are taking an "us against the world" mentality....or us inspite of the fans who don't know anything about football and are just reacting emotionally. It could work out great or be a disaster. Don't see much in between.

Obvious inside AD employee here. This is pretty sad how low the program is when they get on a free message board to sell crap to the natives. Just give it up dude.
Trash level takes for sure. He can tell Phillip here that nobody supports him or JP. Go ahead and rid yourself of JP or go down with him.

If we’re going to fire Pruitt, only to hire some coach McDoodoo who has to learn on the job for three or four years, you might as well keep Pruitt. You only let go of the guy if you know without a shadow of a doubt you have someone lined up who will be better.
Freeze, Campbell, Kiffin, Malzahn, and Herman would all be 1000 times better then Pruitt. You can say the administration cares about winning but its been over 10 years and I have not see anything that says they have a clue with what they are doing

It wasn’t a state rule..... it was rules implemented by the university..... I’m sure Pruitt handles it poorly..... some people handled it well and some handled it poorly..... that is in every business..... state... at my daughter’s high school.... they eliminated the jump ball from basketball and are not allowing runners to score on passes balls in baseball..... tell me how that makes any sense..... I fail to see the point of how different coaches handled a pandemic when hopefully we can get back to some sense of normalcy by this summer.

So with this line here, you finally acknowledge the truth. Pruitt’s handling of the covid issue was a fail, and should be permanently removed from the list of excuses people throw out for him.

Also Auburn, TX, and SC had all talked about firing their coach the previous season.

I think they're waiting on 2 things. 1. To refill the reserve coffers a bit. 2. The new TV money to kick in.
