Point still stands he got a QB worth a damn to come here. That alone makes him better as of right now lol
He also got JG to come here. So he hit a home run with Dobbs and also got a guy that led the league in Double plays. You can’t just dismiss that. Also, Dobbs was going to Arizona State...Tennessee>>>>>>>Arizona State..For football

Other Stuff Arizona State for sure.

Napier may be a good coach but I just don't know. He hasn't proven enough yet. It wouldn't be a home run hire for me

Napier isn’t proven. Got it. Geez......

I don't mean to suggest it is simple "addition by subtraction." When you know an employee isn't working out, you don't wait to fire them because you're afraid you won't find something better.

We've made four coaching hires in the last decade - I would argue two of them were bad and two were good. Dooley and Pruitt have had zero redeeming qualities. Kiffin was EVERYTHING we wanted. Butch was on the precipice of consistent success and had two rosters as good as anything we've seen here since 2001. And besides Kiffin, none of those guys were at the top of our lists. That means we're scraping the bottom of the barrel and still batting .500.

I don't mean to be "that guy", but I have some contacts in the coaching community. Billy Napier and Jamey Chadwell are very good coaches who we can hire tomorrow if we want. Jeff Brohm, Neal Brown and Scott Satterfield can all be had - they are all unhappy at their current jobs. There are a handful of assistants we could try that make more sense than keeping Jeremy Pruitt and letting him run out the clock.

If we don't swing this year we will regret it. You know it and I know it. Because in 10 months, when we're having this conversation again after we go 5-7, we won't suddenly be more competent and the coaching pool won't suddenly be better. You're either a year early or a year late - which one will we be?
i'd say we're gonna regret it no matter when we do it. in that regard, it really doesn' t matter. i think at this point it's worth a reminder that at every stop, we've been turned down by multiple candidates that were at the top of our previous lists....2 or 3 of them said no multiple times.....

so, firing hasn't been the issue.
and reallyl, neither has swining.

we just strike out. a lot. and wind up with kiffin, jones, dooley, pruitt. and i don't see anything that says that changes this time around.

i'm just to the point where i really don't care about firing a coach. we can do that, have done that.

we have never hired the right guy.

I've decided I want two things in a new head coach:

Offensive minded

Experience running a successful college program, don't really care what level.
This. The college game is all offense. This is no longer a defense wins championships game.

Has to know how to run a program and not get overwhelmed with the day to day tasks that a head coach is asked to do.
