That's not how this works. You don't give your "vote of confidence" in one sentence at the end of a bowl press release - especially considering Fulmer probably never saw that quote let alone said it himself. Some staffer wrote that and they released it.

Virginia Tech's AD came out at a specifically scheduled press conference to let everyone know Fuente was returning. Texas Tech did the same for Matt Wells.

Also, the VQ crew and LWS are very well-sourced. If they say discussions are still ongoing, that means discussions are still ongoing. It doesn't mean we're going to fire Pruitt. But what it does mean is we don't know yet.

Until Phillip Fulmer is on camera somewhere saying Pruitt is coming back we don't know for sure.

It is how it works unfortunately. VQ has stated that at this point Boyd will have to step in to overrule Fulmer. I sincerely hope that happens for what it’s worth, including firing Fulmer if necessary.

And lol at LWS. It’s difficult to be wrong when you express an opinion on every side of an issue. He admitted that he hasn’t talked to Fulmer or anyone connected in about 5 years.

I think the decision makers have to decide if they see a path to success with him as HC. If he goes 8-4 next year which is as good of a regular season that this place has had in 12 years since Fulmer by matching what Butch did in 15-16 how do people react? I get nobody thinks 8-4 is the standard but it’s a start. Anything less than that is not good enough when you have 4 should be almost guaranteed wins. That equates to going 4-4 in league play which has happened 4 times since Fulmer. Lane went 4-4 in 2009. Butch went 4-4 and then 5-3 and Pruitt went 5-3 last season. You have to learn to walk before you can run no matter who the HC is here.

this state is going to be a priority for ‘22

The waiting is wearing everyone out and you can tell here on this forum. For those wanting a change, things to hang your hat on:

1. No vacant assistant coach slot has been filled.

• Once this happens, then it's pretty much a given that he is coming back.

2. Internal investigation has not been reported as being finished.

• Not sure if this applies at a state university, but someone in the media should FOIA the university for the investigation report once it's completed.

3. CJP is still in quarantine.

• If the first reports of him having COVID are correct, he would still be unavailable.
• Unlikely a decision would be made while he is ill.

well, if they do pull the trigger, it should be a double barrell. said it a long time ago...pruitt and freeze should be able to shake hands with each other as they go to/from the podium...........lol.

The "for cause" play was always horseshit. I think they wanted that out there so they could scare him into taking a reduced buyout if it got to that point.

I will say that the evidence is starting to point to Pruitt returning in 2021, but until Fulmer comes out and says it, and people like Hubbs and LWS say the "discussions" have ended, I think it's still an open-ended question.

I think this is the most logical and reasonable way to look at this and approach it.
