What makes UT attractive?

he left in 09? man worked in asheville in 11. had met crompton at a VQ OW game picnic years before. one of his former teammates was an employee.

that was not the same dude. i guess whatever voodoo lane has/had did it's thing.
recall that game against VA tech. we got whipped


no slight to jonathan. we have had very little talent at this position since casry left. jonathan had lots of raw talent, but could throw the wormburners. always rootef for the guy. he wss different for sure

We have had 4 stars that have not developed since LK left and turned into nothing .Dobbs the lone exception.

Fanbase by and large does not have unrealistic expectations.

ALL most reasonable fans would ask for at this point is for a coach to come in with an actual plan on how to turn things around and execute the plan. If it takes 5 years to win the SEC East that can be totally fine as long as the coach is showing signs of improvement and upward trajectory as he's going along.

He could start by:

Not making stupid mistakes that make you look like you've never coached before\
Being blown out by 21+ points 10+ times in their first 3 seasons
Actually having a punchers chance versus the big 3 rivals and, within that first 3 years, winning a game or two they shouldn't
Not EVER - NEVER EVER EVER losing a game by 21 points to Kentucky or Vanderbilt (we could say not even lose to them period)
Surrounding yourself with good assistant coaches that helps develop players and actually letting the assistants do their job and maybe not ever firing one at halftime of a game in front of other players/coaches
Not making stupid excuses and having stupid clichés - do your talking on the scoreboard
Running a program that shows excellence in player development - sending some good players to the NFL that have properly been developed and utilized to their potential while actually at Tennessee
Realizing that you need an explosive offensive game with the way NCAA football rules are now and knowing that you have to be able to score 50 at times
Appreciating the magnitude of the UT job and welcoming the challenge

Look, most fans know that right now it's going to take a couple of years again. But I still feel like the RIGHT coach could come in here next year and still win 8 or 9 games with properly developed talent and the ball bouncing the right way a few times during the season.

Just show improvement and show you are competent. Yes, every team (aside from Alabama) will have off years but let's get to where maybe by having the RIGHT coach in year three or four they can go to the SEC Title game and win 10 games. Have a coach that can win the SEC outright every 6 or 7 years and be in the playoffs with a shot at the NC once a decade.

The woeful inadequacy of the last few coaches has made it seem like there's unrealistic expectations from some of the fans. But the truth is the majority will be willing to give it time AS LONG AS that coach is showing signs of progress and improvement. You can't be blown out like poor Gomer has been blown out and expect that coach to ever make it as a head coach at Tennessee. Good to great coaches don't get blown out like that with any type of regularity.

Right now we just need a coach who can be good. These last three have been some type of all-time bad with poor Gomer maybe being the worst out of the bunch. And that's really saying something when you know you are comparing him to the trumpet blower and the mama's boy with the right last name.

"The fanbase" first time i drove down and seen the crowd of over 100,000 and seen that power T open up i thought dear God this is incredible. As an ohioan i never seen anything like it. Thats what got me. The recruits would have to think the same thing during a visit during a game. Also the orange is electrifying. Favorite color.

The university/Knoxville should be a lot more alluring to a coach as opposed to a player. There are some absolutely pristine neighborhoods in Knoxville where $3mm buys you a house that puts 95% of the homes in Greenwich to shame, UT is willing to spend top-five money for its first choice (should probably elevate that cash to $10mm/year in order to secure someone who's absolutely great) and it's clear that the promise of winning big exists on Rocky Top. For players, and I don't intend to sound rough here, I could see your nightlife/shopping concerns hitting home; as much as the kids on the roster are here to play football, Knoxville has absolutely zero "cool" stores for these guys (let's face it, our average recruit isn't clamoring for sport coats at McClellan) and the strip doesn't have nearly the allure that it did in decades past (not to mention that the clientele/experience at Southbound and Hanna's Old City don't exactly match what urban players might desire from a "real" city).

Unless UT starts to turn things around and resume putting players in nearly every round of the draft (which goes hand-in-hand with winning on the field), I can't see a lot of compelling reasons for the most talented 17-year-olds in the south to commit to playing on The Hill.

- Local access to air travel

Negatives
- Seemingly constant University/AD turmoil
- Limited shopping
- Limited nightlife
- Distance to the beach, large city amenities and activities

What's on your list, and what can actually be fixed to make it a more attractive place overall?

Tennessee if it’s in the right place is one of the premier places in the country for college football. Ask any rival fan about playing here in our heyday. Problem is we’ve allowed incompetents to run the program into the ground. Tennessee has a lot in place if the right person is at the helm. Look at Bama the decade before Saban arrived.

The most attractive thing about UT for a coach is that we are willing to overpay for minimal work and then we make sure that the buyout far exceeds a coach's value, so that when you get fired, you will make millions over years..

In my opinion the biggest problem with the university is piss poor leadership, most of the people currently running the university are not there because of their incredible qualifications, skills and talents, the are there to facilitate someone else's agenda,

In my opinion, Blonde Donde is there because we thought we had to have a female Chancellor since the last one flamed out, Bev Davenport seemed inept in public speaking, not able to articulate what her athletic director, John Currie, was supposed to do, who cares if we hire a qualified Chancellor, we have to have a female chancellor

In my opinion, Fulmer is there to lap up money he thinks he is owed because of the 1998 perfect season and the national championship, but they ran him off campus after mailing it in during 2005 and 2008 with a losing season, losing conference records, only Cutcliff's handle in 2006 and 2007 saved his bacon for the 2008 collapse, Fulmer has no AD experience, no special business background, no skillset in administration that make him an effective AD,

In my opinion Randy Boyd is a successful Knoxville businessman, no advanced degrees, ran a goofy campaign for governor in 2018, got blasted in the primary by a first time candidate from Nashville, Haslams put him there when Bill Haslam decided he didn't want the job, not sure running a baseball organization and a pet supply business provides the skill set to run a university, but he's there when he's not out hawking for a new baseball stadium for his Sevierville team in a worn out part of downtown Knoxville,

Blonde Donde and Fulmer should be summarily fired, Boyd might be better suited to be the athletic director, but his sports holdings may be a conflict of interest for running a local college athletic department. But you will not see any talented or quickly recognized head coaching superstars coming to work for this crowd.

Does anybody actually think Andy Holt, Jack Reese, Ed Boling, or Bob Woodruff
had a guaranteed employment contract? Does anybody think the current cast of characters could hold a candle to Reese and Boling?
