I’m actually excited to hear how many times the announcers refer to “the Tennessee job”.
I bet it’s either zero (since there is no current opening) or lots and lots depending on how adventurous the announcers are.

Funny to watch some justify things. You see Chadwells offense do well against scrub teams and think oh, that offense would look great in the SEC. He is the flavor of the month. But let’s be honest why he is. COVID. In a regular year CC would barely be mentioned. Does his offense look good? Sure. But against the schedule he plays even our offense would look good.

Mike Leach’s offense hasn’t done squat in the SEC. Neither would Chadwell’s.

But but but... success at Coastal Carolina means he would hit a grand slam with UT and “SEC” talent.

Just for discussion / counterpoint: Napier has roots in Georgia where father coached in the north and his brother is now a coach in the south. Pair this with his time in Louisiana, Alabama, and South Carolina and he should have a lot of recruiting connections across the southeast...

This is just me personally but i think ties to an area is the most overhyped thing in CFB. It’s been proven time and time again that it doesn’t matter if you have them or not for the good coaches.

I don't see TN making the kind of hire required to compete with and beat bama, period. Freeze might be competitive, someone like Urban would keep poor Nicky awake at night, but we don't do big time hires.
I think UT would be completely satisfied fielding a bit better than .500 team each and every year. No desire to play with the big boys.

This is just me personally but i think ties to an area is the most overhyped thing in CFB. It’s been proven time and time again that it doesn’t matter if you have them or not for the good coaches.

Nah, Dooley’s recruiting failures were well documented in that he didn’t call on HS coaches when they didn’t have an offerable player... if you have a relationship then they call you. They like their egos stroked as much as anyone rather than cold calls...

I don't believe this is entirely the truth. Urban is a pipe dream, he wouldn't come here for crazy money. There just aren't many coaches out there that could flip this program.
