Not necessarily. Wouldn't let the fear of NCAA keep us from hiring a coach. We did that with Pearl and he's doing his thing with an SEC rival. Pruitt's problem is that he still thinks he's at Bama where they always look the other way. We hire Freeze and he's going to know eyes are upon him and his efforts. He's well aware of how to swim in those waters. I'd hire him in a nano second. Same for Kiffin. I'm not looking for a saint. I want a damned football coach.Exactly. No chance Freeze is the next hire now.
If I had to guess, I suspect we were turned in by a rival who likely got info from a recruit who signed elsewhere or didn't sign in the early period. My money would be on UGA or Auburn. There's no saying if Gray and Maurer are actually the ones that took benefits. They could've missed today because of COVID for all we know. Obviously that is the assumption, but nieds was clearly the one that was mentioned and he wasn't even listed as a recruiter for either one. Doesn't mean he couldn't have done it, and maybe it was the defensive recruits this year.
Sounds like a plan, but I doubt it. Even so, we now have the grounds to terminate with cause. The buck stops with Pruitt. If UT was struggling due to his buyout, they now have the solution to that problem. It's perfect timing to be sure. Hope they take advantage of the gift they were just given. My wife just made a good point. Maybe someone within TN or even a booster alerted someone so they could fire Pruitt with cause and not have to pay the buyout. Maybe?
