In your opinion, who are the “gettable” candidates that would say yes to Tennessee? Freeze, Napier, and Chadwell seem to be on that list. Any others?

Try the 247 podcast that dropped yesterday. I haven’t listened yet but it’s supposed to be an overview of where we stand with everyone. From what I’ve read, there shouldn’t be many surprises at this point, so look at our list of commits on 247 and that’s likely who we’ll get if they are signing tomorrow.

Small sample size but both seem as serviceable if not better than JG. Pruitt has brought a lot of this on himself by being unwilling to change. I have no doubts HB would have lead us to the same record if not better as a true freshman and we let a 5th year senior do it. Pruitt just hasn’t done himself any favors at all this year.

Unless we bring in Freeze or a sure fire homerun then I'm on the keep Pruitt train.

Let him recruit and build the roster while we really look at candidates and do this right, with a plan. Anything less than 8-4 next year or going 0-3 against the big three and he should be canned. It would be year freaking 4. If he is going to be successful it would have happened by next year or he isn't the guy.

I know that isn't how this will probably go down and 8-4 gets him an extension regardless of how he does against the big 3, but that is the way it should happen.

It will have to be somebody that has strong support among a very small group of decisionmakers. And one decisionmaker stands taller than the rest.

You and I both believe they are fully gauging the market. And here's the thing: Pruitt knows it too. So, at some point, if you keep making these calls, you become more and more committed to making a change just out of optics.

If you call the top 5 guys and they turn you down, all of a sudden 6-8 don't seem so bad.

Give me their number. I'll offer them a contract on behalf of the university. 10 mil per year, complete control, free education for all of their extended family, vacation homes in Vail and Fiji, whatever they want. I'll hound them so much that they'll either take it or put out a restraining order.

If he hasn't changed in 3 what makes you think he is going to change now? Even under Fulmer he's been as stubborn as a mule and then belittles the media like they are 2 year old's. He hasn't shown the maturity to be a HC in 3 years and most coaches that have worked under him can't stand him. And yes let's talk about the lack of player development. He took over the D line. Have they gotten better? No. How about playing JG that cost us so many games and the lack of QB development. We still have no pass rushers, no decent DB's that can actually cover anyone or tackle, and an OL that was suppose to be all American. We are in year three and we have digress not progressed.

I can’t dispute any points you made. I will comment on a couple. Last week was the first time I have seen/heard him be a little testy with she media.
I think the lack of development with our younger players were significantly impacted by COVID and we are just now seeing some of them get in the field.
Our QB development is lacking. JG works in the summer with a renowned QB coach (we have seen the videos) and still is not very good. He knows the playbook better and can manage the game and that’s his only strength other than being able to take a hit.

This may get me stoned, but I would prefer another year of Pruitt as opposed to another botched coaching search.

The last two, we have been turned down in very public fashion by people who have proven to not be that great. Plus, we went nuclear (necessarily) on Schiano Sunday.

I’m firmly in the camp of, if you can hire a respectable, experienced guy with P5 HC experience, do it now. But let’s do it like grown ups, like a well run organization.

The coaching searches we have experienced, though exhilarating on VN, are a microcosm of the dumpster fire this program has been for a decade +.

These names are encouraging bc they are just not realistic IMO.... If we get down to the Freeze levels where people start listening, we need to make the change yesterday

Seems like we are already laying in the crypt huh?? that article should be printed out and required reading by the BOT and any decision makers for hiring future coaches. Who am I kidding tho, it’s probably too late for us like LA has been alluding to. I’m sure if they had taken These same steps after the Dooley hire and said screw this crap we wouldn’t be in this mess anymore, Tennessee might very well be a relic of the past and we missed our window of opportunity.

If that's the case, is it true that he cannot be recruited by anyone else because of his signed LOI. He'll have to tell the team he signs with and not talk to any other teams.
