The aTm outcome doesn't matter. What matters is if UT can make a hire it wants. I'm hundreds of posts behind so IDK who the VN flavors du jour are now. But many of these names are unrealistic-- not because UT hasn't inquired or won't pay, but because some guys are simply not going to come, for whatever reason. So it comes down to how far down the list do you go before Anybody But Jeremy isn't enough.

Some things happened this weekend. But as we've seen, there aren't that many white whales out there. Others are looking, too.

Honestly, with Gus Malzahn available, I’ll be greatly annoyed if the admin comes back with: “We looked high and low, and golly, we couldn’t find anyone any better than ol’ Jeremy here.”

Do you think Malzahn would be a big enough candidate to get everyone on board?

I tend to think he would be, but I want your opinion. We are the only school with a possible opening that would make any sense for him.

I think the recruiting success Gus had at Auburn can be attributed to Garner and the AU bag men. If he doesn't have that at Tennessee, I don't see him having any more on field success than the past 3 Tennessee coaches.

I don’t think a white whale is needed in order to pick a competent QB, teach LBs to defend a slant pass, score a couple of second half TDs over the course of a season and win the games we’re supposed to win against teams with inferior talent. Just my take... If Pruitt were able to show progress game to game yet we still lost, so be it. But we were blown out by KY and Ark. We weren’t even competitive against the big 3 (that Florida game wasn’t as close as the score showed) and there’s no sign we will be for a while. That’s why I think it’s time for a change.

I don’t think anybody will be fooled if that were to happen, what good assistant coach wants to come to situation where they will most likely have to leave in a year. We keep throwing out names like Bo Davis or tosh lupoi thinking those guys wouldn’t get better offers at more stable programs. Most likely we will probably end up with guys like mike bobo who would bring another worthless offense and lower level assistants at places like Tulane or Colorado state

The question really is, who can we get that we would like to have... and think is worth making a change for right now? Most lists start with the same names, and every school calls them. You do your due diligence, collect your nos then see how far down the list you have to go before determining if it's worth it.

Our county mayor here said Tennessee hospitals will get access on December 18th. It can't come soon enough.

Both of my parents have covid. Thankfully they’ve both had mild symptoms. I was worried about my mom eventually getting it because she’s high risk but she’s been doing well so far.

Why does UT have to operate its football program like it’s Austin Peay? You’re telling me coaches are saying no to 3-4 million a year to coach in the SEC with all the bells and whistles you could want? Also, it seems like the admin and AD are aligned. What am I missing?

Agreed. I think Gus would check all the boxes. I really feel like up and comers like Napier and Chadwell are the flavor of the month. So there will be same guys next year. Problem is, if you feel like Pruitt isn't the dude, the you are just throwing good money after bad just to let him retool the staff. He might limp to 6-7 wins under such a scenario, and you ride him out 2 more years. Which is fine if you are o.k. with mediocrity.

I happen to think Gus would be successful here, but I understand the hesitation.

But, again, you're prescribing your own logic to a Tennessee coaching search. There is no standard logic and we know that by now.

Not attacking you directly, but there seems to be this mindset of posters here that goes something like, "I think this would be a bad hire, so for that reason, it's impossible and not worth talking about." That's wrong.

Look at Auburn right now for proof a coaching search can get away from you quickly.

No one cares about recruiting or any of that other pointless crap right now.(Glad we signed another good class that won't get developed) Most want a new coach, and that's what it is going to take to get most of the fanbase back.

They aren't doing **** to bring us back. Freeze is so easy that it hurts.

I guess that depends on where you put the line. For the guys I consider top tier, yes. I think the elites are a very small club. But Pruitt is bottom-tier, so mid-tier is the playing field for most schools. Then you start layering in and prioritizing the variables-- are we going to hold firm with wanting a sitting coach, how important is rebuild experience, whose personality and style would be a good fit with UTAD and is that going to matter? And on it goes.
