There are about 92 teams considered better than the Vols at the moment.

Its fairly simple to understand that any number of coaches could be doing a significantly better with this program than Pruitt is doing.

But thanks for explaining that the Vols won't be hiring Saban or Dabo. Hadn't heard that one before.

Getting rid of Pruitt really doesn't necessitate a Saban or Dabo level hire to improve the program.

If you need a name though I'd submit Bob Stoops. Better record than Fulmer, available, has the itch to coach again.

This. Matt Campbell or Hugh Freeze (depending on his interview) would be home run hires.

A friend once told me, “if you’re going to run with the big dogs, you better learn to p!$$ in high weeds.” UT has (absolutely HAS) to put together a REAL FINANCIAL package and go big-game hunting. In addition to the two above, I’d also kick the tires on Urban, B Stoops and Peterson and let it be known to all of the agents that UT is ready to play in the big leagues (maybe you get surprised by a successful coach). Highly unlikely, but I’d have the $$$ lined up and ask.

How long do you think the wait be and no there is not a GREAT hire with little enough sense to come here and if we think we are getting one, well I doubt he will pan out as great...

BYU, Coastal Carolina, Cincinnati and Iowa State all have really promising coaches. There is also Hugh Freeze who has been mentioned before but has baggage. I think it’s very realistic to assume we could get at least one of those coaches.

The clouds break. Music starts to play as rays of sunshine start coming down on things in Knoxville. Then we try again and hope for better results. Since we've got all of 2 wins and hoping for 3 against a vandy team with 37 players and a girl kicking, I'm not sure there's that much further to fall.

Imo the steps to success aren't complicated and are completely in reach for a program with the history and resources available to Tenn.

1. Give Fulmer another gold watch, a slap on the back and send his azz back to Maryville.
2. Hire the best available head coach (based on a track record as a head coach) and get out of his way.
3. Getting out of his way is giving him a staff and recruiting budget in lines with his competition and let him run with it.
4. Hire an AD that is on the same page and the new coach respects.
5. Have the HC support campaigns that focus on what is right about UT, not correctable issues that have plagued Tn in the past.

It's really not brain surgery and there is simply NO reason why Tenn had to settle for a head coach of marginal intelligence and a history of erratic behavior. If and it's a big if UT could acquire a head coach like Freeze, you would be immediately improved and in the battle for the east by yr 3 at the latest.

People keep looking saying the grass is greener look at Arkansas they are doing well after losing so many games coach is only in first year let’s see what is happening in year three or four. The truth is there is not a,or of hot coaches or really good splash hires that are available. Would love to have a head coach that has coached in a power five team I agree you need to back up the Brinks truck and have them give you a number and raise it by 100,000.

Hope we get a really good hire just feel we will be in the same spot when freze is 8-4 two years in a row and haven’t beaten Alabama or Florida and we want another coach.

Bob Stoops. The retired HC at Oklahoma ? Where was he a head coach prior to taking the Oklahoma job? Where was Mark Richt a HC prior to taking the UGA job ?

I for one would be impressed, though not satisfied, with 8-4 two seasons in a row. It would show stability and improvement. The expectations here are not too high. Stop losing to teams you're supposed to beat...which the Thumb does at least twice a year. Compete with the big-3...which the Thumb has yet to do. Compete for the East...which the Thumb apparently has no interest in. Improve...which the Thumb is apparently incapable of.

That's all...I don't expect much just yet. Make me feel like you're trying.
