I DOYou think he would leave Oregon for UT?
Nah dawg
Then the fanbase needs to quit b*tching and moaning and accept a CEILING of 8-4 and be ok with a typical 7-5 / 6-6 for the long term. It’s gonna take us a HOMERUN hire (Campbell and Fickell are not in that group). Can’t finance another “hope and prayer” based on success at a smaller school. They’ll bring their no-name scrub staff that won’t make a dent in recruiting in the SEC and we’ll continue our descent. The folks looking down on Chadwell and Napier and saying we need to aim higher — I agree we do to start, but how many really home run hires get made in a given year? Saban and Harbaugh (the latter hasn’t worked out but was WIDELY viewed as can’t miss and swinging for the fences) are the exception. Florida, which is a much better program, had to “settle” for “Mehlen.” Before that their previous three coaches had been a) an offensive coordinator; b) a defensive coordinator; c) a G5 head coach whose most impressive win was beating a mediocre Pitt team in the Fiesta Bowl. There just aren’t that many sure things.
That’s like a Stoops, Myer type. Cristobal, Campbell, Fickell and all the bargain names after them don’t warrant that.I do, it’s about getting the right fit. But, whoever it is, they need full power. I think that is at least part of the problem. Can’t have everyone’s hands in the cookie jar. Think it needs to be a BIG name where everyone knows he has full control and no influence at all from the good ole boys network or administration.
Basically, needs to be a big enough name where you hand them the keys to the kingdom.
i'm of the opinion Freeze looks like Saban bc we have sucked, and, the way we've sucked is so sucky, everyone wants to not.I think Pruitt should get another year because this rebuild was always going to take 4 seasons. But i also think hiring a HC this year will be much easier this year than it will be next year when the market is flooded with firings.
so I’m conflicted.
